STATEWIDE BURN BAN ISSUED DUE TO CONCERNING DRY CONDITIONS

BATON ROUGE- Due to the extremely dry conditions statewide and the concern over first responder safety in these dangerously high temperatures, State Fire Marshal Dan Wallis, along with Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain, has issued a statewide cease and desist order for all private burning, pursuant to authority under R.S. 40:1602.

Private burning shall only be allowed by permission of the local fire department or local government.

This order is effective as of 5:00 p.m., August 7, 2023, and shall remain in effect until rescinded.

This ban shall not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, or by those who conduct prescribed burning as a “generally accepted agriculture practice” as defined by the Louisiana Right to Farm Law
(R.S. 3:3601 et seq.).

The use of barbeque grills, fire pits and small campfires for brief, recreational COOKING purposes are allowed and not affected by the burn ban.

BATON ROUGE- Debido a las condiciones extremadamente secas en todo el estado y a la preocupación por la seguridad de los socorristas en estas temperaturas peligrosamente altas, el Jefe de Bomberos del Estado, Dan Wallis, junto con el Comisionado de Agricultura y Silvicultura, Mike Strain, emitieron una orden de cese y desistimiento en todo el estado para todas las quemas privadas, de conformidad con autoridad bajo R.S. 40:1602.

La quema privada solo se permitirá con el permiso del departamento de bomberos local o del gobierno local.

Esta orden entra en vigencia a partir de las 5:00 p. m. del 7 de Agosto de 2023 y permanecerá vigente hasta que sea rescindida.
Esta prohibición no se aplicará a las quemas prescritas realizadas por el Departamento de Agricultura y Silvicultura, por personas capacitadas y certificadas por el Departamento de Agricultura y Silvicultura, o por quienes realicen quemas prescritas como una "práctica agrícola generalmente aceptada" según lo define el Derecho de Luisiana. a la Ley Agrícola
