Action Comedy Spoof/ Proof of Concept

Feast Your Eyes Films is casting several roles for ACTION!, an independent action-comedy proof of concept intended to serve as the opening of a future feature film.

LOGLINE

When an intensely committed method actress is mistaken for a real federal agent and kidnapped during an independent film shoot, her director and his loyal production partner must turn their filmmaking equipment, and everything they’ve learned from making action movies, into the tools of an increasingly absurd rescue mission against the biggest crime boss in the city.

ACTION! is a straight-faced action spoof where absurdity is treated completely seriously. Big action-movie filmmaking collides with the realities of independent production. The comedy works because the characters never wink at the audience, while the action and cinematography are intended to be legitimately cinematic.

CASTING

MAYA / AGENT AVA CHEN | Female | Mid-to-Late 20s to Early 30s | Asian or Mixed Asian Descent | Principal

Maya is a warm, sincere actress whose commitment to method acting has gone catastrophically far. While portraying Agent Ava Chen, she remains completely in character through breaks, a real crime, a kidnapping, and increasingly dangerous circumstances. Agent Chen is controlled, intimidating, tactical, highly researched, and genuinely capable.

This role requires a strong dramatic performer with commanding screen presence and excellent straight-faced comedic instincts. Maya/Chen is heavily involved in the action and must convincingly carry herself as an action lead.

Stunt, martial arts, stage combat, dance, athletic, or other movement experience is strongly preferred but not required. Performer must be comfortable learning and safely executing choreographed action.

This is an especially important casting decision, as the selected performer may have the opportunity to continue as Maya/Agent Chen in the eventual feature-length production and impending spin offs.

CRIME BOSS | Male | 40s to 60s | Physically Imposing | Principal/Supporting

The biggest crime boss in the city. What does he do? Crime.

Looking for a very large, tall, powerful, or heavily built performer with an immediately intimidating physical presence. Think heavyweight fighter, massive bouncer, retired lineman, professional wrestler, or Kingpin-type silhouette. The role does not simply call for an older or heavyset man. He should look like somebody who could dominate a room before saying a word.

NERF GUY | Male | Adult | Featured Supporting Role
A member of the Crime Boss’s crew with strong comedic reaction work and dialogue. Looking for a grounded performer who can play absurd circumstances completely straight. Limited choreographed physical action.

DEBTOR | Male | Adult | Featured Speaking Role

A nervous criminal who owes the Crime Boss considerably more money than he currently possesses. Looking for a grounded dramatic performer capable of selling genuine fear and desperation. Role includes limited staged violence.

SAFETY OFFICER / FLAGGER | Any Gender | Adult | Featured Role

An extraordinarily serious safety professional who chooses perhaps the worst possible moment to enforce proper traffic procedure. Looking for strong deadpan comedic instincts and natural authority. Limited dialogue. Maximum commitment.

GOONS | Multiple Roles | Adults

Supporting and featured action roles working alongside the Crime Boss. Several roles involve chase, fight, kidnapping, and physical-comedy choreography.

Athletic performers and actors with stunt, martial arts, stage combat, wrestling, dance, or other movement experience are strongly encouraged to submit.

One camera. Multiple looks. 🎥

For us at , the name of the game is creative freedom. When people ask why I’m running the DJI Ronin 4D 6K on set, it all comes down to time and versatility.

We can get those buttery-smooth, dynamic tracking shots without needing a massive team or complicated gripping that eats up the clock. And when the scene calls for a grittier, raw vibe? We just lock down the Z-axis and run it like a traditional handheld camera.

No heavy setups, no rebuilding rigs. Just adapting to the story in real-time.

🎨 Color Theory: The "Fever Dream" Palette

We often think of "survival mode" as bleak and desaturated. But for this Cast Away homage, we went the opposite direction. We cranked the saturation. ☀️🌴

Why punchy colors for a survival scene?

Because isolation can feel like a fever dream. We pushed the deep cyans in the sky and the crunchiness of the greens to simulate that feeling of sensory overload—when the sun is too bright, the heat is disorienting, and the world feels almost too real.

It’s a "Cruel Paradise." The location looks beautiful and vibrant, which creates an unsettling contrast with the character's panic.

The Philosophy:
Sometimes, a nightmare looks like a postcard. We used the grade to bridge the gap between beauty and danger.

TECHNIQUE TUESDAY:

Atmosphere isn't an accident—it's an achievement. 🌫️🎬

Swipe to see the setup behind the mood.

For this scene, we wanted to create a sense of isolation and heavy history. By using a single key light with a lantern, a harsh "moonlight" for a rim, and a layer of atmospheric haze, we were able to pull our actor out of the shadows while keeping the "worn-in" textures of the room alive.

It’s one thing to have a great location; it’s another to make that location feel like a character of its own. At Feast Your Eyes Films, we obsess over these details so the viewer doesn't just watch the story—they feel the environment.

We shot this with the DJI Ronin 4D 6K and Sirui Saturn Anamorphics. Lights were the Aputure 600x with Aputure lantern and Amaran 60x. Edited and Color Graded in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

💡 SHOT BREAKDOWN: THE NIGHTJAR: RECKONING

This is one of my favorite shots from the short. The secret? It’s a mix of high-end glass and hardware store improvisation.

Here is the recipe for the look:

1️⃣ The Color Contrast:

We set the camera White Balance to 4500K. Then, we blasted the backlight (Aputure 600x Pro) at 3200K. By misaligning the temps, that backlight renders as a rich, deep gold against the neutral shadows. It also did a great job at filling out the room tone.

2️⃣ The "Lowkey" Key:

You don’t always need a SkyPanel. The key off Camera Right is a simple Shop Light. It provides just enough lift to see the details without killing the contrast.

3️⃣ The Atmosphere:

The real MVP is the Haze. Without it, that 600x is just a bright dot in the back. With it, we get volume and depth that fills the frame.

Strip away the noise. 📼

When designing the new vanity card for Feast Your Eyes Films, the goal wasn’t to overcomplicate it with heavy 3D effects or clutter. We wanted something that felt like a stamp of approval—bold, distinct, and immediate.

We went with our new logo with heavy VHS aesthetics to capture that analog soul/digital future vibe we love. It’s gritty but professional. It doesn't scream for attention; it just sets the stage for the story about to be told.

Simplicity creates focus - and we want the focus to be on the film.

It started as just a name.

When Max and I first came together to start this in 2021, "Feast Your Eyes Films" was really nothing more than that—a name.

Then, for a while, it was just a silly little mascot. We were figuring it out as we went.

But looking at where we are now, this rebrand isn’t just about changing a logo. It’s the full realization of everything we’ve been working toward. It represents my growth as a filmmaker, our evolution as a team, and the standard we want to hit every single time we pick up a camera.

To everyone who has trusted us with their vision along the way—whether you stepped in front of my lens or let me help tell your story—thank you. You allowed me to sharpen this craft, and this growth wouldn't be possible without that trust.

We’ve finally grown into the name.
