This afternoon, we responded to a call about two people whose boat flipped over after going over the dam on the Battle Creek River near Wagner Drive. One made it to shore, and we helped the other safely out of the water using our swiftwater gear. We're glad both boaters are okay and appreciate the support from our partners on scene.
As we head into the holiday weekend, a reminder to keep it safe on the water:
â–ª Wear your life jacket, even if you're a strong swimmer.
â–ª Stay clear of dams and fast-moving water.
▪ Let someone know your boating plans—and never go alone.
Enjoy the outdoors, stay alert, and help keep our rivers safe for everyone.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Office is Raising Awareness About Phone Scams

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) has received numerous complaints from the public regarding scammers who identify themselves as law enforcement and request payment after issuing threats of an arrest warrant.

The scammers commonly identify themselves as administrative staff from the Sheriff's Office and demand payment in lieu of arrest. The scammers may also use fraudulent "Order of Arrest" documentation as alleged proof of the warrant.

It should be noted that the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office will NEVER contact members of the public by telephone or email demanding money or requesting personal and sensitive information. No CCSO or law enforcement agency member will ever request payment via prepaid credit cards or cryptocurrency ATM. Do not give personal information to anyone without verifying the legitimacy of the person requesting the information.

If personal information is released to a suspected scammer, please get in touch with your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible. Also, contact your local financial institution to advise them that personal information was released to protect financial accounts.

The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau is investigating the complaints further and attempting to identify those involved in the fraudulent actions.
