On behalf of everyone at our shelter, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and students at LaMora Park Elementary for your incredible coin drive and support.

Because of your kindness and generosity, we are able to provide food, medical care, and comfort to animals who need it most. Your efforts truly make a difference in the lives of so many dogs and cats waiting for their second chance.

35 dogs in Battle Creek are waiting right now… and the shelter is over capacity.

Some of them have been there longer than they should. Some are still wagging their tails every time someone walks by, hoping this is the one.

Spring is here… which means longer walks, more time outside, and the perfect chance to give a dog the life they’ve been waiting for.

You don’t just get a pet… you give a second chance.

Even if you’re not ready to adopt, take a look. Share it. You might be the reason one of these dogs finds a home.

Every now and then, a face comes across our desks that truly breaks our hearts and ignites a fervent hope. Today, that face belongs to a gentle, soulful-eyed dog named Buddy.

A woman learned her former dog had been surrendered to a kill shelter by her ex-boyfriend. She'd been searching for the dog for months after their breakup. The dog was scheduled for euthanasia the next morning.

She arrived after closing and found the facility locked. She broke a window, disabled the alarm, and searched the kennels until she found her dog, Max. She took Max and fled.

Shelter staff discovered the break-in and the missing dog. Police issued a warrant for burglary and theft. Security footage clearly showed her breaking in.

She turned herself in three days later with Max. She faced felony charges but argued that Max was stolen from her originally by the ex-boyfriend, who'd had no legal right to surrender him.

Her lawyer proved ownership through vet records, photos, and microchip registration. The ex-boyfriend had surrendered the dog illegally out of spite.

The judge dropped charges against her and issued a warrant for the ex-boyfriend for theft and illegal surrender. Max was officially returned to her.

She still faced civil penalties for property damage to the shelter. She paid gladly, saying that breaking that window saved Max's life.

The case highlighted problems with shelter surrender procedures and identity verification.

Keanu Reeves just turned 1,000 acres of rolling California hills into paradise for abandoned dogs and cats.
This morning the 61-year-old actor cut the ribbon on Arch Haven Animal Sanctuary: a breathtaking, fully free, no-kill rescue funded entirely by $100 million of Reeves’ personal fortune (the biggest single donation ever made to animal welfare by an individual).
The sanctuary features:

500 climate-controlled kennels & cattery palaces
On-site veterinary hospital with MRI and hydrotherapy pools
50-acre off-leash forest playground
Lifetime care guarantee: no animal will ever be euthanized for space or cost
Adoption centers in LA, NYC, and Toronto opening 2026

Reeves, wearing his trademark black jeans and holding a three-legged rescue pitbull named “Baba,” told the crowd:
“I lost my dog when I was a kid. Never got over it. These guys don’t get second chances unless we give them. So I sold the bikes, cashed some things, and built them a forever home.”
Every dog already has a name tag reading “Chosen by Keanu.”
Within hours raised another $47 million in public donations.
The man who quietly saved countless lives just built a nation for the ones with four paws.
