NOTICE FROM THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY…

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19B2CwEu3K/?mibextid=wwXIfr

This morning, a Georgia State Trooper from Post 16 -Hazlehurst responded to assist the Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office, who were in pursuit of a subject wanted for an active kidnapping, which is a forcible felony in our state. The pursuit left Jeff Davis County and entered Appling County. As the Trooper reached the scene, the fleeing driver pulled over, ending the vehicle pursuit. The driver got out of the vehicle and immediately began to flee on foot. The Trooper gave chase and shouted lawful commands for the subject to stop, which were ignored. During the foot chase, the fleeing subject fell onto the ground and refused to obey lawful orders given by the Trooper. The subject reached into his waistband area, while continuing to ignore the Troopers commands. The Trooper drew his weapon and fired at the subject, striking him multiple times. The subject was airlifted for treatment. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested and is investigating the shooting. All questions regarding this matter should be directed to the GBI.

GBI ISSUES NEWS RELEASE REGARDING YUREZZ HOME CENTER...

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1HBwXtdk4Q/

Baxley, Appling County, GA (July 16, 2026) - The GBI, working alongside local and federal law enforcement partners, executed a search warrant at the Yurezz Home Center in Baxley, GA, on July 16, 2026, in connection with a fraud investigation spanning several states. The FBI Savannah Resident Agency is assisting with this investigation.

On July 8, 2026, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office arrested Richard Altman, age 42, of Baxley, GA, prior to the search warrant operation, on charges out of Louisiana. Altman is the co-owner of Yurezz Home Center.

Due to the complexity of this fraud investigation, the GBI is working to centralize the flow of information from potential victims to the GBI. If you believe you were defrauded or did not receive goods or services you purchased from Yurezz Home Center in 2025 or 2026, there are three methods available to submit your information:
1. Submit information via the See Something, Send Something mobile app
2. Call 1-800-597-TIPS(8477) and select Option 2
3. Online at
https://gbi.georgia.gov/submit-tips-online
When submitting information, please include your name, contact number, and a brief description of your complaint/business.

We appreciate your patience as we manage the anticipated volume of complaints associated with this complex and ongoing investigation.
