Supermoon over Westlake
A Super Pink Moon appeared over the Bicentennial Clock in front of Westlake City Hall on April 25, 2021. A supermoon happens when the full moon coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth in its orbit. What is a Super Pink Moon? Despite the phenomenon’s name, the moon usually doesn’t appear pink (although it does in this photo). The name comes from the early springtime blooms of the pink phlox plant that’s native to eastern North America.

Porter Library distributing COVID home tests.
Westlake Porter Public Library is distributing BinaxNOW COVID-19 Ag Card Home Tests through its drive-up window. Those unable to pick up a test during regular library hours may contact the library to arrange for a test kit to be left in an after-hours locker. WPPL also has RTA passes to hand out to anyone who needs one to get to a vaccination appointment.
Anyone seeking a test who is feeling sick or showing COVID symptoms should send someone else to pick up a test for them. Users must have a smartphone and a computer with a we**am and internet access to administer the at-home test.

Bay Village demonstration rallies against social injustice

Bay Village, Ohio citizens staged a protest march on Friday, June 5 as over 400 cities across the U.S. held marches to demonstrate against racial injustice following the death of George Floyd of Minneapolis.
Floyd died last month after pleading for for his life as a Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee on the man’s neck while handcuffed. The march started at Huntington park and proceeded down Lake Road to Cahoon Memorial Park where the crowd laid down in silence for 8 minutes and 47 seconds, the amount of time that Floyd lay pinned down on the ground as he died. The peaceful march then proceed to the Bay Village police station on Wolf Road with chants for social justice. Bay Village police bicycle officers observed the event and directed the orderly demonstrators throughout the march. See more at www.wbvobserver.com
