Harvest season doesn’t just move crops — it moves pests. By mid-to-late September, as fields are cleared of corn, soybeans, and other crops, rodents lose the food and cover they’ve relied on all summer. The result is a sudden shift toward homes, barns, grain storage, and commercial facilities.
This migration pressure is especially noticeable in the last two weeks of September through early October, when natural shelter is at its lowest. Mice and rats will exploit gaps around foundations, loading docks, and utility lines to establish themselves indoors.
For PMPs, this is the ideal time to increase exterior monitoring, service bait stations and traps, and check exclusion measures before the influx peaks. A few hours spent now can prevent weeks of callbacks later in the season!
