Harvest season doesn’t just move crops — it moves pests. By mid-to-late September, as fields are cleared of corn, soybeans, and other crops, rodents lose the food and cover they’ve relied on all summer. The result is a sudden shift toward homes, barns, grain storage, and commercial facilities.

This migration pressure is especially noticeable in the last two weeks of September through early October, when natural shelter is at its lowest. Mice and rats will exploit gaps around foundations, loading docks, and utility lines to establish themselves indoors.

For PMPs, this is the ideal time to increase exterior monitoring, service bait stations and traps, and check exclusion measures before the influx peaks. A few hours spent now can prevent weeks of callbacks later in the season!

The daily temperature swings in September are something else. 80ºF days and 50ºF nights, and major storms to boot! Put all that together, and you'll see a major increase in pest activity in homes and commercial spaces.

Warm daytime temperatures keep outdoor populations active, while cooler nights and weather disruptions drive them indoors in search of stable conditions. This shift can trigger sudden upticks in calls for pests such as boxelder bugs, stink bugs, rodents, cockroaches, and more.

Monitoring high-risk entry points, reinforcing exclusion measures, and scheduling timely exterior treatments can help reduce infestations before they become established. Catchmaster PRO's extensive line of glue-based products are perfect for securing perimeters as the seasons change. Whether you need glue boards in a kitchen or a boundary roll in a warehouse, our products can help you tackle pests in any scenario.

Seasonal weather changes in September create a noticeable shift in pest activity across the United States. Key trends to monitor this month include:

- Northeast / Mid-Atlantic: Brown marmorated stink bugs begin their pre-overwintering aggregation. As temperatures drop at night, these insects seek warm surfaces such as sunny siding and window frames. Without intervention, they can quickly find their way indoors in large numbers.

- Southeast: American cockroach activity increases inside structures, particularly after heavy rains or flooding. Storm conditions force these pests out of their natural habitats and into homes, commercial buildings, and food service facilities.

- Midwest: Boxelder bugs start congregating on sunlit exterior walls and other warm surfaces. This behavior typically precedes large-scale indoor movement as they prepare for winter, making early perimeter treatments especially important.

- Southwest: Bark scorpions remain active during the night but begin appearing indoors more often as they seek warmer environments. Monitoring entry points and using exclusion methods can significantly reduce indoor encounters.

- Pacific Northwest: Giant house spiders enter peak mating season, leading to an uptick in indoor sightings. Males often travel considerable distances inside structures in search of mates, increasing the likelihood of customer complaints.

Proactive treatments, exclusion work, and targeted monitoring during this period are essential to prevent these pests from establishing themselves inside structures before winter sets in. Catchmaster PRO offers a wide variety of products to help you keep your clients free of these September scoundrels.

What makes Catchmaster PRO's glue the best? Well, we can tell you!

Our glue is a pressure-sensitive adhesive, meaning that it forms a bond when pressure is applied, no drying or curing needed. This allows it to trap insects, rodents and other pests the moment they touch it, even with minimal pressure.

And unlike cheap glues that tend to melt or ooze, Catchmaster PRO glue utilizes a high-viscosity base that maintains its shape and tackiness without migrating or drying out, meaning it can hold form and remain effective in vertical applications.

Additionally, our glue products are non-toxic and odorless, so whether it's bulk glue or a glue board, these products are perfect for use in sensitive environments.

As e-commerce and rapid distribution continue to grow, urban warehouses are storing more bulk product than ever — and that means more opportunities for stored product pests to take hold. Indian meal moths, cigarette beetles, and rice weevils are increasingly showing up in facilities where turnover is high but monitoring is low.

PMPs need to think beyond perimeter treatments. Effective control starts with early detection. Pheromone-based traps and non-toxic glue boards from Catchmaster PRO can help you monitor for infestations before they become widespread — all without disrupting sensitive storage environments.

Stay proactive, stay precise — and stay ahead of the infestation curve. Reach out to a rep today and see how Catchmaster PRO can work for you 👇
