The work of El Comité de Mijente and Las Manos Trabajadoras Que Mueven El Mundo at Cafecito y Chisme—a space centered on conversation, connection, and hearing directly about the issues affecting local families and working women. As well as the Tejano Center shared resources.

From cafecito and creativity to meaningful conversations about our community, it was great to see people come together, share their experiences, and make their voices heard.

This is what community looks like—creating space, listening, connecting, and uplifting the people doing the work. 💕☕️

Building small businesses means building stronger communities! 💼✨

I had the opportunity to moderate the Small Business & Leadership Forum at Houston City College Southeast, highlighting resources available to entrepreneurs through HCC, including workforce development, career training and industry partnerships.

Thank you to HCC Southeast President Dr. Frances Villagran-Glover for opening the forum with words of encouragement, Connie Leon for the introduction, and panelists Tara Zekavat, Anahi Figueroa and Melissa Perez for sharing their knowledge.

Local entrepreneurs and HCC students were able to ask questions, share their needs and connect with resources that can help them grow.

Let’s Vámonos has utilized resources at HCC for the past six years, so helping bring greater awareness to these opportunities was especially meaningful. And, of course, I couldn’t have done it without my mom by my side. ❤️

Small Business & Leadership Forum, bringing together higher education, workforce development and the small business community for an important conversation about how we can better connect people, resources and opportunities.

Our panel will feature HCC leaders:

🎤 Tara Zekavat — Director, Corporate Training
🎤 Anahi Figueroa — Manager, Career and Student Services

Moderated by Desirée C. Klaus a community small business advocate, the discussion will explore:

✨ Current workforce and small business challenges — and opportunities to create solutions
✨ Corporate training and workforce development resources available to businesses
✨ Grants, funding, training programs and other support available to entrepreneurs
✨ Career and student services that can strengthen connections between education and industry
✨ How higher education and entrepreneurship can work together to develop talent, strengthen businesses and create successful outcomes for our communities
