Sara called me hoping I could help find her lost ring. She had been boogie boarding and said that when she stood up at the end of the ride, the ring caught on the board, popped off her finger, and went into the water.

Normally, boogie boarding losses can be extremely difficult because you can cover so much ground and have no idea where the ring came off. But Sara knew exactly where it happened.

I met her at the beach about a half hour later, with the tide going out. That made it much easier to pinpoint the area where she had been.

It didn’t take long before I got a very good tone. I was almost positive it was Sara’s ring.

Sure enough… there it was, safely in my scoop! 🎯💍

I received a call about a lost engagement ring on the beach. Cameron and Morgan were enjoying the day at the beach with family when, later in the evening, Morgan realized her engagement ring was missing. She was devastated. Everyone searched the area, but the ring was nowhere to be found.

With daylight fading and darkness approaching, one of the family members decided it was time to call NJ Ring Finder and bring in a professional.

When I arrived, the tide was extremely far out, so I started searching the wet sand and worked my way toward the water. I eventually searched out to about knee-deep water but still had no luck. Morgan assured me she had never been any deeper than about knee-deep, which made me realize I was probably searching too far out.

As darkness set in, we decided to call it a night. I told Morgan I would be back bright and early in the morning, and she agreed.

When I returned the next morning, I started working my way back through the wet sand—thinking about where knee-deep water would have been at high tide when the ring was actually lost.

Sure enough, it didn’t take long.

I got a beautiful signal, and there it was—Morgan’s engagement ring, sitting right there in the sand, barely covered and almost in plain sight. Anyone walking that stretch of beach during the night could have easily spotted it.

Morgan was completely shocked, and Cameron couldn’t believe it either. To have the ring back less than 24 hours after it was lost was an incredible result.

Incredible Necklace Recovery from Swift River Waters – Against All Odds

I received a call early in the morning from Joe, who was camping and had just lost a cherished necklace and cross in a nearby stream. While doing a flip off a large branch that hung over the river, the necklace flew off mid-air and landed somewhere in the water below. Understandably, Joe was desperate to recover it—this necklace meant a lot to him.

Water recoveries are always challenging, but rivers add an extra layer of difficulty. With recent heavy rains, the current was moving fast, and Joe confirmed the water was about chin-deep. It sounded almost impossible, but I agreed to come out and assess it in person—always willing to try every possible way to help.

Once we arrived at the campground, I geared up with my wetsuit to face the ice-cold water and quickly found myself in chest-deep, fast-moving current. I was too buoyant to keep steady on the bottom, so I strapped on my full weight belt. Even with the added weight, holding my position was nearly impossible once I found a signal.

We rigged a rope from the overhanging branch across the stream, and I used it to hold myself steady while swinging the detector inch by inch. After more than an hour of fighting the current, exhaustion began to set in. I kept returning to a strong signal just past the middle of the stream, but it was nearly unreachable due to the current’s strength.

Finally, I made one last desperate attempt. I lunged forward and found footing on a submerged root or stump—just enough to brace myself. I pushed the scoop out in front of the coil and gave it one clean shot. As I lifted the scoop, I could feel items clanking inside. In the dark cedar water, visibility was almost zero, but as the scoop broke the surface, I saw it—gold. The entire bottom of the scoop was filled with Joe’s large gold chain and cross.

I let out a massive cheer, loud enough that half the campground probably heard. It was a hard-fought recovery in brutal conditions, but one I’ll never forget.

Lost Necklace and Medallion Recovered in LBI – A Meaningful Family Heirloom Saved

Anthony posted in one of the local Long Beach Island (LBI) Facebook groups asking for help. His daughter had accidentally dumped a beach bag earlier in the day, unknowingly spilling a precious necklace and charms onto the sand. Dozens of people quickly jumped in to recommend my metal detecting recovery service, NJ Ring Finder, and around 1 a.m., Anthony sent an email through my business page.

I responded and asked him to call me in the morning, which he did. We discussed the details of the loss, and he mentioned his wife, Lisa, would be heading to the beach later that morning. I asked her to try and arrive early to secure the area where they had been sitting—marking off at least 30 feet to the north and south—since it was going to be a sunny and crowded beach day.

When I arrived, Lisa waved me down and walked me over to the spot. She carefully described what happened. Moments after turning on my detector and beginning the search, I received a solid low tone with a crisp, high-end chirp. I carefully scooped into the sand and out came an earring and a medallion—one item they hadn’t even mentioned at first. It turns out their daughter Naomi hadn’t told them she’d lost an earring, and the medallion had detached from the necklace.

I scanned the area again and got another clean low signal. This one I was almost sure would be the chain and cross, and sure enough, I recovered both. The entire search took just minutes, but the emotional impact lasted much longer. The cross belonged to Naomi’s grandmother, and the medallion belonged to her grandfather—both deeply sentimental family heirlooms that they feared were gone forever.

Everyone was stunned by how quickly I was able to recover such meaningful items. We shared a great conversation and some tears of relief before I packed up and headed out.

I received a call from Kevin, who was hoping I could recover his lost wedding ring from a lagoon along the Jersey Shore. While out paddleboarding, he caught a football and watched in disbelief as the ring popped off his hand and dropped straight into the water.

With recoveries like this, it’s absolutely critical to know exactly where the ring came off—not just when it was discovered missing. Thankfully, Kevin was certain of the exact location. He had great reference points and solid landmarks, which gave me the confidence to accept the job.

I explained that I was extremely busy, but since the ring had settled on the lagoon floor, it wouldn’t move—so there was no urgency as long as the location was precise. I coordinated with Buzz, whose next availability was Monday morning at 8 AM. Kevin said that was perfect, but asked to be kept on standby in case of a cancellation. Unfortunately, no earlier slots opened up.

That Monday, we met at the house bright and early. Buzz and I gathered all our the gear and made our way down to the jet ski dock. We decided to head out to the exact location Kevin had marked and take a look to assess visibility before beginning a full grid search.

As soon as Buzz dropped in, it was pitch black—no visibility at all. But after just a little bit of feeling around, he felt something solid. In total disbelief, he pulled up Kevin’s wedding ring—exactly where Kevin said it had fallen.

The entire underwater recovery took only 3 1/2 minutes. That’s one of the fastest and most precise dive recoveries we’ve done in murky water.

Kevin’s parents were up on the upper deck watching the entire recovery unfold. When I held the ring up in the air, they were stunned. We snapped a few photos, talked for a bit, and moved on to the next call. What a great way to start the day!

Elizabeth was enjoying a beautiful day at the Jersey Shore, soaking up the sun and having fun swimming and relaxing on the beach. To keep her jewelry safe, she removed all five of her rings and placed them carefully on her beach blanket.

As the day came to an end, Elizabeth began packing up. When she picked up the towel to shake it out, all five rings flew off into the sand. She managed to recover four of them, but one special ring was still missing.

After searching without success, she decided to call me — Edward Trapper, the NJ Ring Finder — a name she heard from several beachgoers nearby. We made arrangements to meet later that evening. The beach was mostly empty by then, which made things easier. Thankfully, Elizabeth had marked the location where she believed the rings had landed, just as I had asked.

I started searching the area she pointed out but came up empty. That’s when I asked her to demonstrate exactly how she shook out the towel. With strong southwest winds blowing, she showed me that she had been facing north when she did it. Based on that detail, I widened the search and adjusted my direction.

Just one additional pass in the new area and I had the missing ring in my scoop!

Matthew reached out to me wondering if I could help locate his lost ring in the bay. After talking through the details, this recovery sounded very doable.

He had been standing in calf-deep water along the shoreline while playing catch with his kids. When the football hit his hand, his ring popped off and landed in the water. Fortunately, he was confident it happened in a small 10x10 area—no more than five feet from the edge of a fixed pier, which made it much easier to pinpoint the exact spot.

He believed the ring was gold, so I scanned the area carefully, ignoring high VDI signals (which typically indicate silver or coins, not gold). After covering the whole area and coming up empty-handed, I asked him again if he was sure the ring was gold. That’s when he admitted he wasn’t 100% certain.

So I decided to check one of the high signals I had previously passed over—just in case it was silver. Sure enough, after two scoops, his beautiful silver ring was in my scoop!

This was a textbook recovery made possible by one key factor: location certainty. When someone knows exactly where they lost their ring—especially in the water—the chances of a successful recovery increase dramatically. Many times, people only realize their ring is missing later and can’t be sure where it came off. That wasn’t the case here, and it made all the difference.

Shannon sent me a text asking if I was available to help recover her lost rings on Long Beach Island. After she explained what had happened, I told her I could head over right away. I asked her to leave a couple of chairs at the location to mark the spot, since it was a busy weekend and we didn’t want anyone else setting up there before I arrived.

Not long after, I met Shannon at the dune walkover. By that time, it was dark, so I flipped on my headlamp and we discussed the details of how the rings went missing.

She pointed me to the area where she believed they had fallen, and I began searching immediately. I scanned the entire spot carefully—nothing. I moved a bit closer to the ocean—still no luck.

At that point, I widened the search to the south. Just a couple of passes later, I got a strong signal… and there they were. Both of Shannon’s rings—safe and sound—resting together in my scoop.

Even in the dark, a successful recovery like this one is always worth the effort. Location marking and timing made all the difference.
