BARNEGAT TOWNSHIP MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that on September 8, 2026, William Garvin, 67, of Barnegat Township, was charged with Murder in connection with the death of his wife, Eileen Garvin, 69, also of Barnegat Township, on September 7, 2026, in Barnegat.
On September 7, 2026, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Officers from the Barnegat Township Police Department were summoned to a residence on Windward Drive for a report of a domestic violence incident. Responding Officers made entry into the residence and discovered William Garvin seated in a chair with a knife protruding from his chest. Officers also located the body of a deceased female - later identified as his wife, Eileen Garvin - lying on the floor. William Garvin was transported to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City where he is presently listed in stable condition.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, revealed that William Garvin was responsible for the death of his wife, Eileen Garvin. Additionally, Detectives determined that William Garvin’s knife-wound was self-inflicted. William Garvin was charged with the murder of Eileen Garvin and served by way of complaint-warrant at the hospital. Upon his release from the hospital, Garvin will be transported to the Ocean County Jail where he will remain lodged pending a detention hearing.
Prosecutor Billhimer commends the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Barnegat Township Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office, for their collective efforts and assistance in connection with this investigation.
