Rebekkah Lawton is a fourth year journalist, and second year photo director. In her junior year Lawton assisted Julia Dommel in assigning people to sporting events.
“One of my favorite things was making sure everyone who wanted to take photos got to,” said Lawton. “I also made sure most of the events were covered for photo.”
Now as a senior Lawton has stepped up and fully filled the role. She now edits photos that everyone takes in addition to editing her own photos and working in the field.
“Taking photos at games is always really fun for me too,” explains Lawton.
There’s something about capturing a single moment that’s so special for Lawton. It’s part of the reason that she continues to return to Hawk Headlines year after year. She also finds the class to be really enjoyable.
“There’s something about the journalistic atmosphere that keeps me coming back,” said Lawton.

Meet Emma DeGeorge, Sports director. DeGeorge is a fourth year journalist who started her freshman year and instantly found her passion for sports. From broadcasting games, to editing stories, DeGeorge was instantly entertained by the world of journalism. In her junior year she filled the place of Hannah Mudry, and has now found her own way as director.
“I like being able to drive other peoples passion for journalism,” said DeGeorge.
While she enjoys being a director and playing a key role in class, DeGeorge also works well in the field. She frequently broadcasts games, does social media, promoting all of the sports teams at Woodland. DeGeorge also sees this as something that she wants to pursue in the future.

Senior News Director Colby Sizer has been part of Hawk Headlines since the start of high school, stepping into a director role at the beginning of her sophomore year. For Sizer, the most rewarding part of being a director is guiding others.
“My favorite part about being a director is helping other people edit their stories and seeing the improvement they make as I apply different edits and suggestions” she said.
What makes Hawk Headlines stand out for her is the creativity it allows.
“It’s not just writing—it’s podcast, video, everything,” Sizer explained.
That mix of opportunities, along with the community she’s found, keeps her coming back each year.
“A lot of seniors my freshman year inspired me to come back and I hope to do the same for these freshmen,” she shared.
