Back to school & holy smokes, I’m on my 2nd week of school routine & I’m still trying to wrap my head around it all—anyone else? The last 6 yrs of our life was void of this routine because everyday life looked really different.
And through it all, I feel like we’ve tried just about every version of school there is:
Public school, private school, online school, online charter school, nature school, homeschool, boat school, world schooling in Italy w/ Boundless Life , and….unschooling.
I have a child that loves to write novels and another that loves to summit mountains.
Our kids are all so unique which means that one form of education that works for one, may not work for another. And sometimes, there’s the willingness to admit that what worked beautifully before isn’t what they need right now. (Hence my change from homeschooling)
I’ve learned that education isn’t linear and seeing it from this perspective has helped us use different methods in different seasons.
So for now, (and I say this loosely), we’ve got Koen at a small local public school, Brittan at a high school charter school known for college prep & will graduate w/her associates degree, Hudson is in an online charter school, and Jadyn….well she’s full on adulting and living her best life.
I still can feel anxious whether these choices are the best ones for each kid. But you know what? If they’re not, it’s ok because we can always make a change.
Maybe your kids are doing awesome where they’re at, or maybe you feel like you need some courage to make some changes, but it’s truly all about paying attention to who they are individually and what they’re needs are—especially if you have any neurodivergent learners.
Seriously rooting you on in whatever schooling method you’re choosing this year! 🙌🏽
And how sweet is it that Koen’s buddies woke up to surprise & cheer him on for his first day at school? 🥹
