On September 19, 2015, 12-year-old Evan Hefty’s life changed forever when he was run over by a bush hog. Thanks to the quick thinking of Paramedic Jennifer Calcorzi and a dedicated team of first responders from Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services, Evan survived against all odds. Since that day, Evan has overcome unimaginable challenges, learning to walk, talk, and even see again.

But perhaps the greatest struggle has been facing judgment for simply being “different.” Now, nearly ten years later, Evan is thriving. He’s close to earning his associate degree from the Technical College of the Lowcountry and recently completed an internship with the City of Beaufort Public Works.

Evan and Jennifer were recently recognized for their strength, courage, and enduring bond at the Beaufort County Community Services Committee meeting on Monday, June 2nd.

The first episode of Beaufort Book Talk premieres Thursday, June 12 at 7:30 p.m. on BCTV, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Amazon Music, iHeartRadio, wherever you get your favorite podcasts, and BCTV’s YouTube channel.

Beaufort Book Talk is a podcast series that showcases everything the Beaufort County Library System has to offer. Each episode will be hosted by BCTV's own Chloe Gee and will have rotating panelists throughout the series. Learn about books, events, resources, and more each week.

The first episode of Beaufort Book Talk features panelists Amanda Dickman and Traci Cox. Amanda is the Beaufort County Library Director and has been with the County library system since 2007. Traci is the Marketing & Communications Manager for the Beaufort County Library system, and has been with library system since 2008.

Chloe, Amanda, and Traci will introduce the podcast, some summer reading ideas, library initiatives, and more.

Beaufort County TV is proud to announce it has won five Telly Awards for its outstanding work in the 46th Annual Telly Awards competition.

Our staff was honored at last nights County Council meeting. The awards are as follows:

Troy Matthews placed Silver in the category of “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion,” for the show Live-Work-Play’s episode featuring Full Spectrum Studios, a local art center where those with disabilities can develop their creative and artistic visions

Keighla Pope Williams placed Bronze in the category of “Series – Non scripted,” for the show Our Schools featuring Robert Smalls Leadership Academy. Keighla also received a second Bronze Telly in the category of “Series-Education and Discovery” for the same episode. The Our Schools show highlights principals, students, and staff at our Beaufort County Schools.

Chloe Gee placed Bronze in the category of “General-Social Video” for this year’s coverage of the 2024 Hilton Head Island Lantern Parade. This segment explored the origins of the lantern parade and how it has evolved into a major annual event for the Lowcountry.

And finally, in the category of “Live Events and Experiences” our entire broadcast crew received a Bronze award for their coverage of the 53rd Annual Town of Bluffton Christmas Parade. This is a massive team effort, and BCTV has been the primary broadcaster of this cherished local tradition since 2011. The crew this year featured Alec Bishop - Director, Troy Matthews - Camera Operator, Tim Lyons - Camera Operator, Craig Todesco - Drone Operator, Jan Beaudrie - Post Production, and Vincent Virga - Executive Producer.
