On September 19, 2015, 12-year-old Evan Hefty’s life changed forever when he was run over by a bush hog. Thanks to the quick thinking of Paramedic Jennifer Calcorzi and a dedicated team of first responders from Beaufort County Emergency Medical Services, Evan survived against all odds. Since that day, Evan has overcome unimaginable challenges, learning to walk, talk, and even see again.
But perhaps the greatest struggle has been facing judgment for simply being “different.” Now, nearly ten years later, Evan is thriving. He’s close to earning his associate degree from the Technical College of the Lowcountry and recently completed an internship with the City of Beaufort Public Works.
Evan and Jennifer were recently recognized for their strength, courage, and enduring bond at the Beaufort County Community Services Committee meeting on Monday, June 2nd.
