The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for coastal South Carolina, including Port Royal, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. today.

Heat index values are expected to range from 105° to 110°, with air temperatures reaching the upper 90s.

If you’re spending time outdoors today:

• Drink plenty of water throughout the day
• Take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas
• Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the afternoon
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and those without adequate cooling
• Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles

High heat and humidity can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses. If you experience dizziness, nausea, confusion, or other symptoms of heat exhaustion, move to a cool location and seek medical attention if needed.
