♻️ Need to get rid of old paint, used oil, car batteries, or scrap tires? Dispose of them safely at the Household Hazardous Waste & Scrap Tire Collection Event hosted by the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC)!

The event will take place this coming Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Buna High School parking lot, located at 711 County Road 734 in Buna.

The free event is open to all Southeast Texas households and provides residents with a safe way to dispose of household hazardous materials that should not be thrown away with regular trash.

Accepted items include:
• Paint
• Cleaners
• Antifreeze
• Car batteries
• Used oil
• Insecticides
• Pool chemicals
• Scrap tires

The first eight tires will be accepted free of charge. Additional tires are $1 each, with a limit of 30 tires. Tires over 22 inches or on rims will not be accepted.

Paint collection is limited to ten 1-gallon cans and two 5-gallon cans per household.

Items not accepted include electronics, appliances, oversized tires, explosives, ammunition, medications, medical waste, mercury, smoke detectors, exit signs, garbage, and scrap metal.

Many people ask what can be done to stop youth violence in our community, but to do that we need people who are willing to get involved and be part of the solution.

We invite those who are interested in making a positive impact in a young person's life to join us this Thursday for the Mayor's Coalition Against Violence L.A.M.P.S. Mentor Training led by Arthur "Coach" Louis.

L.A.M.P.S. stands for Listen, Advise, Motivate, Personalize, and Support.

You don’t have to have all the answers to be a mentor.
Just being present, listening, and encouraging a young person can make a real difference.

Lakeside Center Meeting Room
