Jack Pieper is a beloved Southeast Texan, and an icon in local journalism. He has always been a role model to me and so many other reporters. He is the perfect newsman, hardworking, accurate and kind. So it’s no surprise the Press Club of Southeast Texas would name an award after him, by the way Jack is a founding member of that organization. He is truly deserving.
What was surprising to me is that last night I received the honor of a lifetime, I became the first recipient of the Jack Pieper Legacy Award. Wow! And Jack was there to present it to me. I am truly grateful for this recognition.
Thanks to Jack, his wonderful family, the Press Club and my work family, they definitely know how to keep a secret. It was heartwarming to be honored by my friends and colleagues. That room was filled with people I love and respect, and who are amazing journalists. Our area is lucky to have fantastic media folks and I am blessed to call them my friends!

It was on this day, May 23, 1991, 35 years ago that I started my career as a TV journalist. My first job was at KTRE in Lufkin, 5 days after graduating from UT. I am thankful to still be doing a job I love. I posted photos of those early days, including with my parents. If it were not for them, I would not have been able to pursue my passion. They were the most supportive parents ever, and they believed in me sometimes more than I believed in myself. I hope I made them proud and I continue asking for their blessing from Heaven. And thanks for all the well wishes I have received from so many of you, your kind words make this anniversary even more special!

Congratulations to my friend and co-worker Lincoln Edwards!
Lincoln won best student film at the Beverly Hills International Film Festival, with 450 films from all from over the world.
Lincoln’s film is “Find Your Why”.
It will be out on YouTube Friday.
I know this is the first of many successes in this young filmmaker’s career.

It was a true honor this week to once again emcee the Mental Health Matters Luncheon.
This year’s theme was “In Every Story, There Is Strength.”
And the event co-chairs were two ladies who personify strength in our community.

I will always treasure this photo with these two great ladies.
This incredible event is hosted by Mental Health America of SETX.
The goal is to break the stigma and celebrate the champions of mental health in Southeast Texas.

I really enjoyed our Good Eats shoot today. We got to check out Groves’ newest restaurant, Kick Hot Chicken! And what made it special is that this time I got some help taste testing from the awesome PN-G Indians football team! Thanks to this great group of young men and PN-G athletic director Jeff Joseph!
