🍀 The Irish Féile is underway! Yesterday brought Irish Dance, Mummers, and Gaelic football on the Parish Green—and the launch of two brand-new currachs built right here on the Island. 🎶⚽️🚤 Pop-up shops are open through the weekend, along with special hours at the Gallery and the St. James Pottery Studio.

🌊 Meanwhile, rough weather has forced today’s boat cancellations, with possible extra trips this weekend if conditions improve.

🏛️ In Lansing, budget talks remain deadlocked ahead of the October 1 deadline—and across Michigan, gale warnings mean blustery winds, falling temps, and even a chance of frost. ❄️

🏛️ In Lansing, the budget battle heats up — Attorney General Dana Nessel warns House Republicans’ plan to slash her office budget could gut victim services and even leave counties without prosecutors. GOP leaders say programs are already funded and accuse Nessel of exaggerating.

↔️ Meanwhile, nearly 300,000 ORVs are pounding Michigan trails every year, and state forests are showing the damage — including risks to fragile Island ecosystems.

🛣️ Plus, expect a miles-long detour on U.S. 31 near Interlochen starting today, and here on the Island, the Currach Club launches their new boats just in time for Feile. And, with the passing of Brian Foli, a short remembrance.

🔹 In Lansing, Michigan’s Legislature is at a near standstill — over 1,300 bills introduced this year, but only 12 signed into law. With an Oct. 1 budget deadline looming, pressure is mounting to break the gridlock.

🔹 In Traverse City, the futures of two landmarks — the Bijou by the Bay and the Carnegie Building — are on the table as city leaders weigh repair needs and new tenants.

🔹 On the Island, expect Main Street closures this weekend for the Feile, with alternate parking access via Bonner Avenue.

🔹 And want to help kids practice reading? The Library’s Reading Pals program is looking for volunteers.
