This time of year we kick it into high gear with sale preparations. From bringing the herd off the mountain to clipping and Picturing cows for the catalog. The sale is Friday, December 5th. In person in Beaver Utah and online via DVAuction. The foundation of an excellent herd starts here.

Each fall we ultrasound our mother cows. This is a very accurate way of confirming pregnancy, but also allows us to get an approximate calving date on the calf and confirms the breeding info we have on record. When sale day comes (Dec 5th) our buyers can rest assured that each cow has been confirmed pregnant and they’ll know if the calving date will fit into their own program.

We use ultrasound to make sure we have an ultra accurate preg check. This allows us to verify pregnancy but also to pinpoint how far along she is and to record accurate data on the side of the calf and the expected calving date. When our customers purchase a bred cow or heifer from us at the Dec 5th sale they know all of that info in advance and can buy with confidence.

It’s that time of year again. Fall weaning. To help in the process we use FerAppease to help calm the calves and reduce stress on them. Next is preg-checking the mother cows and getting prepared for the Female Sale on December 5th.

Selecting the right bull to breed to a cow isn’t always just about picking a bull that’s hot at the moment, it’s about picking the bull that’s right for the cow. The goal is to improve on the parents and in order to do that you need to study them, know their strengths and weaknesses, and then find a bull that’s hot compliments them and will give you improvements in the offspring.

We’re looking for someone who is hardworking, motivated, and eager to be part of a team that takes pride in high-quality cattle and land stewardship.Responsibilities include: • Daily feeding and care of cattle • Working and handling cattle • Calving and general ranch chores • Preparing for our annual sales • Building and repairing fence • Operating heavy equipment • Occasional riding on summer and winter ranges during cattle movesExperience is preferred, but a strong work ethic and willingness to learn go a long way.Housing is a possibility.
