As part of our special Veteran Voices series during Memorial Day week, we are deeply honored to share the story of SGT Steve Bozeman, a two-time Purple Heart recipient and proud U.S. Marine.

SGT Bozeman joined the United States Marine Corps in 1966, volunteering for Vietnam where he bravely served two combat tours until his honorable discharge in 1969. He served as a helicopter and airplane mechanic and door gunner with the First Marine Airwing, completing over 300 air missions near DaNang and D**g Ha.

Among his heroic acts, Steve saved a fellow Marine from a burning helicopter after being shot down during a med-evac mission on May 4, 1967. Despite being one of 44 Marines injured after an enemy strike on an ammo and fuel dump, he returned to rebuild the fleet. His valor earned him two Purple Hearts and a place in Marine Corps history.

Beyond the battlefield, Steve is a dedicated community leader who helped organize one of the longest-standing troop rallies in America—every Friday at noon at Lynchburg’s Monument Terrace since November 30, 2001. In 2023, Lynchburg honored him with “Steve Bozeman Day.”

A proud resident of Lynchburg for 50 years, Steve lives with his wife Debbie, and together they've completed 44 Marine Corps Marathons and 48 Virginia 10 Milers. Their blended family includes 5 children, 6 grandkids, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Join us live on May 28th for this incredible journey of courage, dedication, and lifelong service—or catch the episode later on Grove Street FM and all podcast platforms.
