"The Block Party"
91.1 FM (WHFC) and whfc911.org
Saturday Evening 9-12 Midnight
Host: Joyce Conroy

I have a fun "Block Party" planned for you. Hour One, I am continuing my salute to "The Cookies" and some of the performers for whom they did backup like Tony Orlando and Neil Sedaka. "The Cookies" also recorded under other group names. One of the group names was used on an episode of "Gilligan's Island".

On "Ernie's Corner", Ernie Cefalu and I continue our tribute to producer, Jack Douglas. Jack produced albums for Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, John Lennon and you will find out that Jack produced for a group that did not fit the mold at Woodstock. Also, I conclude my tribute to Dennis Locorriere of Dr. Hook with a set of fun songs where Dennis and Ray Sawyer added that crazy fun the band was known for.

You will hear from the "Blues Magoos", Dave Mason, 38 Special, The Sylvers and more including a "Mystery Band" that was bigger in England, but they covered Tommy Roe and a "Mystery Singer" who was related to music royalty, but she was also a star in her own right.

We are up and rockin on "The Block Party". I will save you a place. While you are visiting our website, I invite you to check out all of the wonderful programs hosted and crafted by our students and community volunteers at WHFC. Your support is most appreciated. to keep independent and community radio going strong. Click on the "Donate" button at whfc911.org. Thank you from all of us.

THE BLOCK PARTY
SATURDAY EVENING 9-12 MIDNIGHT
Host: Joyce Conroy
91.1 FM (WHFC) and whfc911.org.

It's the weekend and I have a great Block Party planned for you.

Hour One - It's Part One of our tribute to Earl-Jean McCrea and Margaret Ross Williams of The Cookies who sadly passed away this year. The Cookies were one of the great girl groups signed to Don Kirshner's Dimension label and they recorded demos for Gerry Goffin and Carole King. In addition to their own hits, The Cookies served as backup to many performers like Little Eva, Neil Sedaka and Tony Orlando. Earl-Jean had a brief solo career and she had the original on a song that also became a hit for Herman's Hermits.

Hour Two - On "Ernie's Corner", Ernie Cefalu and I remember legendary producer, Jack Douglas on Part One. Ernie crossed paths with Jack through his design work with Alice Cooper, but he also came to know Jack through a project managed by Jack's wife that involved a psychedlic band that opened for Leon Russell in Hawaii. It's an amazing story.

We are not going to forget about Dennis Locorriere who eventually became the front man for Dr. Hook. Both Dennis and Ray Sawyer were visual members of a great band that was known for their gentle love songs, gritty and b***y humor and just plain fun. This is also Part One as Dennis contributed so much to the group in the later years and continued to perform as long as he could.

Hour Three - It's a birthday celebration of Bob Dylan that will also feature many of the great Dylan covers that were performed by artists over the years.

We leave no stone unturned and every rock has a roll. It's "The Block Party" and you are an important part

Veterans SITREP is back with a powerful new conversation. In this two episode podcast, I sit down with Clarissa Black — Founder & CEO of Pets for Vets — an organization changing lives by pairing Veterans with trained companion animals who bring comfort, purpose, and healing.

Clarissa shares the story behind her mission, the science of the human‑animal bond, and the incredible transformations she’s witnessed when a Veteran meets the right battle buddy with four paws. This is one of those conversations that stays with you — heartfelt, hopeful, and deeply human.

If you care about our Veterans, mental wellness, or the power of second chances for both people and animals, you’ll want to hear this one.
