PARVOVIRUS AT THE HARFORD HUMANE SOCIETY

Four dogs tested positive in the last few weeks. The Humane Society of Harford County says cases of the virus are increasing in Harford County.

This temporary suspension will allow the shelter to test and treat dogs. They’re looking for emergency fosters for healthy dogs to help stop the spread and in need of cleaning supplies.

This disease does not transmit to other animals - all other animal operations at the shelter are still available.

If your dog has not received or is not up to date on its distemper vaccine you should keep it away from other dogs and avoid places like dog parks. The virus is highly contagious.

“Symptoms include, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, fever, dehydration and loss of appetite. Seek immediate veterinary care if your dog shows any signs of illness.”

Know someone at the beach?
Medical waste washed up and the town is prohibiting swimming in the ocean for the time being.

Ocean City Emergency Services is actively addressing the recent discovery of medical waste that has washed up on our beaches. To ensure the safety of all residents and visitors, Ocean City Beach Patrol has temporarily closed the ocean for swimming, and we urge everyone to adhere to this closure until further notice.

Emergency Services Director Joe Theobald stresses that this situation is serious, especially given the combination of rough seas and the current health concerns. "We will work closely with the Worcester County Health Department and other public health authorities to investigate the source of the medical waste," Theobald stated. "Until we are confident that the situation is under control, we recommend wearing shoes on the beach and avoiding the ocean entirely."

Ocean City officials will continue monitoring the beach, removing debris, and updating the public as we gather more information. Your cooperation is crucial in helping us keep our beaches safe. Please monitor the official Town of Ocean City Government social media channels for further updates.

Update 4:45 pm
The teen shot has died. He’s been identified as Warren Curtis Grant of Edgewood.

The suspect’s name is not being released at this time. He is a minor but the sheriff says he will be charged as an adult.

Sheriff Gahler said records show the suspect has been involved in at least 10 incidents on record as suspect, victim, witness or in another capacity.

Update per HCSO:

A 16-year-old boy, known to local police through previous calls, shot a 15-year-old classmate in a school bathroom. That student was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The shooter ran from the school but was arrested nearby. He’s being charged as an adult.

Hi everyone,
I’m home with Covid so unfortunately can’t be present to talk with the PIOs.

Here’s some information. I encourage you to follow Harford County Sheriff's Office for updates. Please be mindful of those involved and who witnessed the incident, and only share confirmed information.

This was an isolated incident, not an active shooter. HCPS says the student was injured during a fight.

I can only imagine how difficult this must be for students and parents on the first week of the new school year. There will likely be resources available - details to come later.

2 DEAD AFTER HOUSE EXPLOSION IN BEL AIR

Update- second victim confirmed. Believed to be the homeowner. BGE worker was also killed in the explosion.

Picture shared with permission - picture is not from a bystander. Please stay away from the scene!

Here’s what we know:
Crews were dispatched for a gas leak on Arthur Wood Drive around 6:42 this morning. That’s just off Wheel Road as you drive toward Harford Glen. The house exploded as crews were on the way. The house was for sale. They’re unsure if anyone was inside but are conducting searches to rule out any more injuries or fatalities.

There’s one confirmed death. That person has not been identified. BGE crews were on scene already for an electrical issue. Fire officials did not say if the death was one of the workers.

Fire investigators from around the state have been called in to help. In addition to investigating the cause they’ll also be examining nearby structures that were damaged and determining the blast radius. They’re also hoping to find Ring camera video or other videos of the explosion. Harford County has a hotline for anyone impacted 410-838-5800.

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THE SCENE.
Police have had to push back crowds which takes away from the investigation. Personal drones were flying in the area which interferes with drones from the Sheriff’s office. This is against FAA rules.

How about some good news on this dreary day?

This past Saturday evening, amidst the rain in Joppa, one of our deputies, Deputy Kyle Burns, went above and beyond the call of duty. A local pizza delivery driver was involved in an accident, and after ensuring the driver was okay, Deputy Burns noticed the pizzas in the car.

Rather than letting the pizzas go to waste, Deputy Burns took it upon himself to deliver them to the intended recipients while they were still warm, ensuring their dinner plans were not disrupted.

The recipient of the pizzas took the time to write us, offer his thanks, and these words, “I was so pleasantly surprised about all this and felt so fortunate to live in an area where people still do good things. I thanked Deputy Burns for the thoughtfulness. God bless our Sheriff Department [sic]”

We are incredibly proud of Deputy Burns and the care he shows to our community. It's acts of kindness like these that remind us why we serve. Thank you, Deputy Burns, for going above and beyond!

FIRE DESTROYS HOME IN ABINGDON

The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined, but investigators say they can’t rule out discarded smoking material.

The homeowners smelled smoke just before 3 this morning and discovered their rear deck and back of the house on fire on Browning Court, in the Box Hill neighborhood. The adjacent homes were heavily damaged.

9 people are displaced. One firefighter was taken to the hospital for an arm injury. Sadly, the owners’ dog died in the fire.

Harford County Highway used an excavator to assist in removing heavy debris.
