It is our job to be not only good stewards of our lands, but also protect our people and our friends, family, and stakeholders on our lands and across Turtle Island.

It is more important to protect life than open a data center or hold events on contaminated lands.

Clean water is one of the most basic necessities for life, yet communities around the world continue to face concerns about pollution entering rivers, lakes, and groundwater. Images like this resonate because they reflect a growing frustration many people feel when environmental damage appears to carry fewer consequences than the harm it can cause to families, wildlife, and future generations. đź’§

For Indigenous peoples, water is far more than a resource. It is a living relative, a source of life, and something that must be treated with respect. Across many Native nations, protecting water has long been tied to protecting community health, cultural traditions, and the wellbeing of future generations. When waterways are threatened, the effects can extend far beyond the immediate area.

Conversations about environmental responsibility continue to grow as communities call for stronger protections, greater accountability, and sustainable practices. While opinions may differ on solutions, the importance of clean water remains a common ground. Protecting the waters that sustain life is a responsibility shared by all who depend on them—which is every one of us.
