This picture is still one of my absolute favorites. I can still feel the embarrassment and guilt in that moment of being the one needing help. I could not fix this problem on my own.
These women around us dropped their competition and ran to help start our truck. I think I knew 1 or 2 of them and they were all from different countries.

I will never forget what that felt like and the impact it still has on me.

Raise a hand all you Mammas and rad Dad’s out there, finding a way to go after YOUR adventures and dreams with kids. Sometimes they go, sometimes they stay home and cheer you on, or, cry and beg you not to go.

Whether you’re starting a business, running one, going after a job you know is right for you, jetting across the world, or being home with them, our kids can handle our dreams ;)

Nope, it’s not easy and I make mistakes constantly. But, I never wanted them to hear the words “Well, I used to do _______ then we had you so we couldn’t.” (This does not apply to everyone, but this was me.)
…
It’s easy to make them a really good excuse to stay in our comfort zone. In fact, it’s praised in todays culture.
…
You know in your gut when you should take that risk and you may be surprised at just how much your kids look up to you for taking the leap ;)
…
Here’s to 2022. Whether your home, working, adventuring, raising kids, or not, listen to that gut of yours. I know for me, I’m a much better person for it.

This was so awesome! Epcot in Disney World has an entire display of the in ‘Morocco’- it brought back so many good memories 😍
But seeing those maps again still stressed me out 😂😂

What a learning curve that first one was! So much different from Morocco on many levels, but looking back, it was the perfect opportunity for growth. Not always fun, but definitely needed.

I’ve found over the years and past adventures and challenges that I rarely know what I’m in for and somewhere in the middle, I’m faced with a choice. The choice to be defensive and not accept the growth in front of me…or…stop and look for the opportunities in the mess…

Ever been to Baja?
Going to Baja last spring was a very big bucket list item for me as I had never been!
We ate tacos, camped on beaches, found some awesome trails, and even drove on some Baja 1000 tracks! (I did my best to channel my inner and 😂 (No I didn’t jump anything ;)

I will never forget. It was my senior year of high school and I woke up, turned on my favorite radio station, and couldn’t believe my ears. As I listened, the 2nd plane hit the tower in real time.

My second time back in Morocco for the 2014 🙌🏼

Instead of shipping, we rented this truck…and promptly found out that it was not taken care of as well as we were told 😂
…
This was a manual, Isuzu DMax which was really fun to drive, but starting on day 2 when I turned off the truck, it would not start.
This is one of my all time favorite photos as teams from all different countries and walks of life, jumped in to push our truck so I could jump start it with the clutch.

After a few attempts, it did not work, however, one of the girls got so mad that after we popped the hood for the 100th time, she started banging on things and it fired up! 😂
…
Turns out, the battery cables were so corroded that it couldn’t connect the charge to start the truck. A good wire brush and some retightening at that nights base camp and we were set 👍🏼

I learned quickly to get out of the drivers seat and run ahead to scout the dunes. (I still do this today if I get a gut check.)
As soon as I put my eyes on what was over the next hill, it gave me the confidence to use the momentum needed to get where we needed to go.
Without that, I was timid and would get us stuck.
It is also a safety issue. “Don’t drive what you can’t see”.

Stories from our very first Gazelle Rally in Morocco, 2012!..
Starting in Paris was amazing, but what we didn’t know was we were on our own to drive to Spain, to catch a ferry to Tangier, Morocco before Google Maps and Wifi was a little more affordable. ..
Our first dune day in the Merzouga Dunes. We were lost for 8 hours, trying to find the first checkpoint of the day.
I got us pretty stuck in some wet sand and discovered that the local men love to come watch and offer their assistance (without speaking English). You are not allowed to accept help so you are saying ‘no’ half the time you are trying to dig out. It becomes a spectacle very fast 😂..
Did I mention that I had never drove in sand before? As I became stressed, I failed to notice a particular local gentleman had parked his motorcycle behind our truck. As I was getting unstuck, I backed right into it 😳🤦🏽‍♀️ ..
Our goal as a team for this first Rally was to finish, and have fun, learning everything we could. I cannot even begin to explain the feeling crossing the finish line on that last day.
We had done it.
We laughed..a lot.
We each made mistakes. We each helped each other out of those mistakes. These 2 Moms had done something we never knew we were capable of doing, and we were going home better people because of this experience. ..
Whatever that tiniest little spark is inside of you, give it a little attention. That little spark may just change your life if given some fuel. 🔥..
thank you for being the best, first teammate I could hope for.

When, where, how did begin?

2011 I met this amazing woman at our first Sema Show. Julie -

had told me about this crazy desert rally in Morocco right before then- (thank you Emily Miller ;) and Julie turned to me and said “Did you hear about this Rally?”

To which the awesome guys around us said “you two should totally do it!”

I looked at her and said, “I like to drive! To which she replied, I’ve always wanted to learn to navigate!”

And that was the very beginning. sponsored us to get us going and we shipped that FJ across the ocean.

I’d never driven on sand, never been in a Rally, never navigated, never shipped a car, never drove in another country, had never raised money to Rally, (we each had to pitch in as well), never spoke French, never fixed a car, never aired up a tire, and never been away from all 3 of my kids that long. (Eli was 1, Ryder 2, Cy 6.)

But I knew I had to do it. I had to try. And I knew it would change my life.

This picture is of Julie and I the first time we trained together and had no clue what we were doing. It was awesome.

And hey, you gotta start somewhere, right?

Hey all you Rebelles! Where am I?
The places the rally takes us are pretty rad! You get to see sights in the US I never would have known about.
It was awesome to show the family some of these places on our spring break 🤗
