Goodman Mayor Clay Sexson told the town's board of aldermen during a special meeting on Dec. 23 that the unaccounted-for $184,000 in the town's 2025 budget was never really lost, only obscured by the town's accounting software "messing up" in 2024.

Based on the mayor's reassurances, the board of aldermen passed a budget for 2026.

GOODMAN -- Mayor Clay Sexson told the town's board of aldermen that the unaccounted-for $184,000 in the town's 2025 budget had been found, and the board passed a budget for 2026, during a special meeting on Dec. 23, 2025.

NOEL -- The Christmas tree is back in Elk River, and Main Street's burned-out building is transformed into a homey Christmas cove. The touches made for a festive atmosphere at Noel's Christmas parade, themed Winter Wonderland, on Saturday.

Close to $184,000 unaccounted for in Goodman's 2025 budget led the city's Board of Aldermen to stall on passing a budget for 2026 during a regular meeting on Dec. 16. Two of the town's three aldermen said they were uncomfortable passing any budget until an audit is performed, and the Goodman police chief has called in the state auditor for an investigation.
