When I start with a new client I need to get 5 bits of information before I even know that I can help them. Video marketing for your business isn't complicated and I'm not that smart. Ask Yourself these questions, before you get started-->
#1. What is Your Goal? Are you driving traffic to an offer? Are you trying to increase overall sales? Are you just trying to build an audience?
Know your goal to know what kind of video to make.
#2. What is Your Brand? I love camp and comedy, but guess what-- it doesn't always work with every company. Animation is wonderful, but it might not work for a financial product. Then again-- it might. Know your brand to know your video.
The biggest companies know when to bend their brand. Brands can bend. But first understand the brand.
#3. What is Your Budget? Video can get expensive. It can also be more expensive to not have a video for your company while your competition uses video to flood YouTube (the 2nd biggest search engine!). Video doesn't have to break the bank, but you have to look realistically at the cost and benefit of video production.
Also consider paid versus organic.
#4. Who are You Targeting? Are you aiming for new customers? Re-engaging old ones? What's the demographic? Is the video communicating to them?
Do the research and find out what platforms your audience is using. Don't assume your video will just get found. Target!
#5 What Equals a Win for You? This isn't necessarily your goal. This is what will make marketing with video worth the time, effort, and money. We usually have some guesses when we start, but we really find this out is by testing, testing, and more testing.
We test views, engagement, and shares. We listen closely to what is working for viewers and what isn't. Ultimately, we want to use the videos and offers that give the best return on the investment.
Video improves Return on Marketing Investment in just about every situation. Video boosts conversions across platforms. Be willing to make some mistakes, take some risks, and get some unexpected wins.
