HONORING LEGENDARY CUMBIA BAND IN PANORAMA CITY
“LOS ANGELES AZULES SQUARE” Los Angeles Azules Fan Club
WHAT: Councilmember Imelda Padilla will host a dedication ceremony naming Van Nuys Blvd at Chase St. “Los Angeles Azules Square” honoring the internationally acclaimed cumbia band ahead of Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month. Los Angeles Azules are known for bringing the cumbia genre to global stages; including the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony in Mexico City.
The dedication recognizes the group’s decades of musical influence to this popular destination in the heart of the San Fernando Valley. The ceremony will include a walk through Plaza Del Valle, a cement imprint of the band’s hands, followed by an awards and art distribution ceremony, remarks from Councilmember Padilla, Mayor Karen Bass, community leaders, and representatives of the band.

Community members gathered to celebrate the continued investment by Councilmember Padilla to improve Van Nuys Blvd.
BACKGROUND: Los Angeles Azules is the most influential cumbia groups in the world from Ixtapalapa Mexico, often described as a defining force in modern Latin music. This dedication comes as Councilwoman Imelda Padilla District 6, serves as host and madrina of this year’s Latin@/Heritage Month Celebration, recognizing the contributions Latinos have made to the culture and identity of Los Angeles to date and for generations to come.
