Our first date saved his life.
“Invite him to church.”
That was the nudge I heard very loud and clear, but it was a crazy idea.
First of all, I was his boss. 😂
Second, did he even go to church?
Lastly, you want me to ask this 24-year-old, very good looking, & very well put together young guy to church?
“Yes”, I heard the voice say.
So, I listened. I asked him. And he said yes.
If you ask him, he will tell you that I was the prettiest girl he’d ever met, & there’s no way he was saying no.
That night changed everything.
The Pastor changed his original plan & started talking about su***de.
I remember thinking, “oh no, he is not going to be able to relate to this at all.”
But, as I glanced over, I realized he and he was leaning forward, his hands gripping his knees & not moving an inch.
I had no idea what was going on, but I reached over & held his hand.
I had no idea that he was arguing with God the whole service.
That he had a plan.
God wasn’t changing that.
For four years, I thought he broke down that night because he had battled su***de & depression in the past.
But on the morning of November 22, 2019, I woke up to a letter that said:
“I had plans. God had you.”
What I didn’t realize, was that he had a plan to end his life after the holidays that year.
All that time. I had no idea 😭
And that 10 years ago today, he decided he was going to stick around until God decided his time here was done.
The last decade has been anything but easy, but I wouldn’t change a single minute of it.
And in the last year, my husband has been delivered from depression and su***de, and we’ve found more freedom than ever ♥️
I still can’t write about that night without tears streaming down my face.
One night changed everything, because I listened to my that voice.
The voice of the Holy Spirit.
I used to say I’d never post anything about politics or religion on social media.
But a lot has changed the last few months.
I’ll still never post about politics.
But I am the woman I am because of my faith.
Because of who God says I am.
I’ve found so much freedom in that.
It’s because of that, that I’ve been blessed to love this man for 10 years today 🥹
