Tonight's episode: The Reality of Black Wealth Inequality / The New Wave of Attacks on Black America
In the first part of todays episode, Civic Cipher discusses Black wealth. There are many ways that income, wealth, and access to capital can shape the outcomes of societies and communities and we pay particular attention to the Black community and the disparities that are present when comparing to White Americans. They spend some time discussing how the myth of trickle-down economics has widened the gap between rich and poor and how Black people are often in the most vulnerable of positions with respect to policies like these.
In the second part of the show, they discuss a new wave of attacks on the plight of Black America. These include legislation that was born out of the response of people filming police encounters, the banning of Critical Race Theory in many states, and companies limiting the free speech of their employees when they choose to support Black lives.

“Women Rising Radio: Election Protection and Democracy Part Two”
Election protection is increasingly seen as a critical issue in the United States, a nation that travels worldwide to “supervise” other nations’ elections. Since the gutting of the Voting Rights Act by the Supreme Court, there’ve been major problems with voter purging, voter ID laws, poll taxes or policies that make people pay to vote, closing of precincts, and other attempts to make voting harder for US citizens. But grassroots election protection and voting rights groups drove a massive surge of voters of color, in particular, to the polls in 2020 - turning out the incumbent Trump regime. We speak with voter turnout expert Andrea Miller, union organizer Carolina Miranda, and pro-democracy activist Pam Wilmot, about what must come next to protect democracy in the USA.
