ARMREST WARS

If you are a woman sitting next to a man of equal size in an airplane, chances are three to one that he’ll take over the armrest between you, no questions asked. Researchers also noticed that men under 40 expressed far more anger than older guys when they lost the armrest to a woman.

DISHING THE DIRTY
Arguments over dirty dishes aren’t anything new, but you’ll probably be surprised to hear just how often Americans are picking a fight over the kitchen sink. The average household sees 217 dish-related arguments each year. That works out to 18 arguments each month revolving around loading and emptying the dishwasher, or leaving dishes in the sink for days.

FUTURE FAT WIVES
If you’re thinking about marrying a woman, picture her in your mind
about 40 pounds heavier. That’s how much weight she’ll pack on if you stay married for 10 years. In a national survey of 25,000 wives,
researchers found that happily married women gained an average of 37 pounds during the first 10 years of marriage, while those unhappy in their marriages gained an average of 54 pounds.

BATHROOM PHONES
Taking your phone into the bathroom is kind of like peeing in the
shower. Everyone knows it’s gross, but people do it anyway. Three in four Americans confess to using their phone on the toilet, with 96
percent of Gen Zers saying they won’t even go into the bathroom
without their phone. The average phone has more nasty germs than the average toilet seat. And here's a weird fact: 40 percent of survey
respondents said they use their phone to set “mood music” for using the toilet.

BOO THE PITCHER
The next time you go to a baseball game, boo the opposing pitcher. Baseball pitchers threw 40 percent fewer strikes when the crowd jeered than when it cheered, according to research. The scientists say the real value of fans’ behavior during a game may be in their antagonism toward the opposing team. Basketball players must have thicker skins. Basketball players’ free-throw accuracy was the same whether the crowd was cheering or jeering.

YELLER BOSS
Do you have a boss that yells at you all the time? He may not be really mad at you. He’s using his anger as a management tool. Bosses yell to scare people, and to make them feel like babies, make them feel bad about themselves, and, at the same time, make them desperate to be back in the boss’s good graces. Yelling also instills an amazingly strong desire not to be yelled at again. The downside of a boss that yells? He creates an office full of yes-people dedicated not to doing their jobs well, but to never being yelled at again.

LYING OCCUPATION
Salesmen have been known to stretch the truth and while that may seem like a bad thing, lying is a good quality to have in that profession. New research from the University of Chicago finds that the ability to deceive is viewed as a sign of competence in jobs that require selling.

NOSE PICKING
Get your finger out of your nose. Nose-picking is a bad habit that some adults carry with them from their childhood. And not only is it embarrassing, but it also poses some potential health risks. Researchers tested hundreds of people and found that nose pickers were 51 percent more likely to carry a strain of bacteria responsible for skin and respiratory tract infections than those who kept their fingers out of their nose.

MOST IRRITATING DATE
What’s most irritating on a first date? A recent survey found that both women and men agree on this one — and the consensus is, “Please put away your phone!” In fact, 31 percent of singles picked “being attached to his/her phone” as the most irritating first date mistake. As for the second most irritating quality, women and men differ here.
Women state they find it annoying when men “take up most of the conversation talking about themselves", while men are more annoyed when they "feel like I’m being interviewed".

EMOTIONAL BOOZE
We all know booze affects your mood, but which spirits trigger which emotions? A new survey of more than 1,000 Americans reveals the types of alcohol that are most likely to lead to different moods. Men voted vodka as the drink that made them saddest, followed by gin and whiskey. Meanwhile, women blamed wine for their blues. Also, men said wine made them happiest (followed by cocktails and just “IPA”); shots left them feeling overwhelmed; gin brought on the most feelings of disgust; and tequila scared both men and women.

150 TIMES A DAY?
The average person checks his or her phone 150 times a day. All of us are clearly phone addicts with an average like this. To really understand how ridiculous this number is, the average person is awake for 15.3 hours of every day. Checking your phone 150 times in those 15.3 hours means that you likely check it almost 10 times per hour, or once every six minutes.
