Happy 89th Birthday to Bill Wyman, former bass guitarist for the Rolling Stones from 1962 to 1993. Wyman was part of the band's first stable lineup and performed on their first 19 albums.

Since 1997, he has performed as the vocalist and bass guitarist for Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Rolling Stones in 1989. Wyman briefly returned to recording with the Rolling Stones in 2023.

Happy 61st to Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo, born October 23, 1964, in Santa Monica, California. He first rose to prominence as the bassist of the crossover thrash band Suicidal Tendencies from 1989 to 1995. He also collaborated with Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir for funk metal supergroup Infectious Grooves. After leaving Suicidal Tendencies, he performed with Ozzy Osbourne, Jerry Cantrell, and heavy metal band Black Label Society.

Trujillo joined Metallica in 2003 and is the band's longest-serving bassist. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Metallica in 2009.

Metallica plays Orion in South Korea.God bless Cliff Burton.

Remembering Leslie West on what would have been his birthday today. He was best known as the co-founder, guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Mountain.

West was named the 245th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone in 2023. A multitude of rock guitarists have credited West as an influence on their playing over the years, including Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Michael Schenker, Johnny Ramone, and Tim Sult, among others.

Happy 68th Birthday to Steve Lukather, born October 21, 1957, in San Fernando Valley, California. Lukather is a guitarist, singer, songwriter, arranger, and record producer, best known as the sole continuous founding member of the rock band Toto.

His reputation as a skilled guitarist led to a steady stream of session work beginning in the 1970s, which has since established him as a prolific session musician, having recorded guitar tracks for over 1,500 albums spanning a broad array of artists and genres. He has also contributed to albums and hit singles as a songwriter, arranger, and producer. Lukather has released nine solo albums, the latest of which was Bridges in June 2023.

Today in Rock History--October 20, 1977

On October 20, 1977, a plane carrying Lynyrd Skynyrd, between shows in Greenville, South Carolina, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, ran out of fuel outside Gillsburg, Mississippi. Lead vocalist and founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, Captain Walter McCreary, and First Officer William John Gray all died as a result of the crash, while twenty others survived. The tragedy abruptly halted Lynyrd Skynyrd's career until Johnny Van Zant, Van Zant's brother, reformed the band ten years later.
