We lost Ric Ocasek on this day in 2019. He was the primary vocalist, rhythm guitarist, songwriter, and frontman for the Cars. In addition to his work with the Cars, Ocasek recorded seven solo albums. Ocasek's 1986 single, "Emotion in Motion", was a top 20 hit in the United States.

Remembering Neil Peart on his birth day, born September 12, 1952, in Ontario, Canada. Peart was best known as the drummer, percussionist, and primary lyricist of Rush. He was known to fans by the nickname "the Professor", derived from the Gilligan's Island character of the same name.

His drumming was renowned for its technical proficiency and his live performances for their exacting nature and stamina. Peart earned numerous awards for his musical performances, including induction into the Modern Drummer Readers Poll Hall of Fame in 1983 at the age of 30, making him the youngest person ever honored in this way.

Peart died from glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, on January 7, 2020, in Santa Monica, California.

Happy Birthday to Tommy Shaw, best known for his tenure in Styx as co-lead vocalist. Between his stints with Styx, he has played with other groups, including Damn Yankees and Shaw Blades, and has also released several solo albums.

Styx's eighth album, Pieces of Eight, was the breakout album for Shaw's songwriting. His rock-oriented contributions "Renegade" and "Blue Collar Man" were the only major hits from this release, reaching No. 16 and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

Imagine, the second solo studio album by John Lennon, was released by Apple Records on this day in 1971. The opening title track is widely regarded as his signature song.

Imagine was a critical and commercial success, reaching number one on both the UK Albums Chart and US Billboard 200. Along with John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, it is considered one of Lennon's finest solo albums. In 2012, it was voted 80th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Freddie Mercury was born on this day in 1946. Regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock music, he was known for his flamboyant stage persona and four-octave vocal range. Mercury defied the conventions of a rock frontman with his theatrical style, influencing the artistic direction of Queen.

Mercury was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003, and the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
