I got to chat with Axel’s mom yesterday and learn a little more about this local rad ripper who is currently running for Sports Illustrated Youth Athlete of the Year! 🏆🏁🤘
“Axel’s been around racing since he was a baby his dad builds and races road course cars, so the track has always felt like home to him. He started racing quarter midgets at just 5 years old, and not long after that, he got into go-karts too. Now, it’s become a full-blown lifestyle for our family.
Our summer weekends are pretty much all racing Saturdays are packed with practice and qualifying, and Sundays are race day. We travel all over the region, and Axel lives for it especially when it rains. Most kids cross their fingers for dry weather, but he actually gets excited when the skies open up. He loves the added challenge.
This year’s been especially big for him. He’s taken on a lot more responsibility from running lemonade stands to help fund his racing, to rebuilding his own engine (with Dad’s help), and even prepping his tires by scraping and grinding them himself before each race. He’s learning what it takes to pursue something you love and how to take ownership of it.
As a parent, it’s been amazing to watch him grow through this sport. Racing has taught him focus, discipline, and how to handle both wins and setbacks. It’s way more than just going fast it’s building character and confidence.
We’d absolutely love to see more kids get involved in motorsports. If anyone ever wants to learn more or isn’t sure where to start, we’re always happy to share what we’ve picked up along the way.”
