Bruna Press + Archive

Bruna Press + Archive The mission of B R U N A is to create unanticipated cultural conversations. It hopes to give voice to the implicit, the hybrid, and the heterogeneous.

bruna press is a new independent, artist-run publishing venture producing work at the corner, at the junction of contemporary art and experimental writing, among other intersections. Taking inspiration from the possibilities of fusion, inclusion, interrogation, and paradox, the press recognizes that discourses entangle, activating printed matter for reflection of and expansion on this complexity.

It seeks to be a home for unanticipated narratives, misfit questions, and perspectives that have been so far unsung and unclaimed, disregarded or omitted, glimpsed yet barely expressed. The bruna press archive features over one thousand titles ranging from rare, one-of-a-kind artist-made books to academic and philosophical volumes, poetry chapbooks, video art works, and vinyl LPs, among other formats. As a collection sited in a semi-public space, the archive is set up to encourage both personal and collective discussions and explorations inspired by the creative, experimental, and rigorous nature of its content.

Honored to have Lummi writer and Washington State Poet Laureate Rena Priest contribute to Nancy Holt Stone Enclosure: Rock Rings with their work “Traversing the Loops.”

Priest recalls their first encounter with Holt’s “loops” and the lasting ripples this “spiral of time” has perpetuated since—pulling passerby into its orbit for decades.

Share this spiral with us at our book launch tomorrow 🌀 Event and book purchasing details at brunapress.org

Our Story

The mission of Bruna Press + Archive (BP+A) is to create and host uncommon cultural conversations. We especially are interested in conversations that take place on the corner, between things, in the middle. To this end, BP+A does the following:

-a public events program (artist talks, book launches, performances, workshops, classes, screenings)

-a publishing program (books are in progress but not yet published)

-residencies and retreats for invited artists and writers, especially from the region
