Some weeks remind you why you hit the road in the first place.

After spending the week in Thermopolis, Wyoming, fishing the Bighorn River with my friends Rowdy and Brian, it was time to point Bertie Bea south and roll toward Douglas, then Cheyenne.

The fishing was great, but the best part was the time spent with good friends. Rowdy and Brian always keep me grounded, keep me laughing, and never miss an opportunity to give me grief when I deserve it. 🤣

We stayed at Eagle RV Park in Thermopolis, and Dennis and Christine rolled out the red carpet for everyone during Memorial Day weekend. Site #10 may just be the best site in the park.

As I headed down the road from Casper, I found myself reflecting on what a great week it had been. Sometimes the best windshield conversations aren't about RV systems, campground troubleshooting, or travel tips. Sometimes they're simply about appreciating good friends, good fishing, and another great memory made along the way.

Have you ever had a trip you didn't want to end?

For years, I thought it was a shortcoming.

I’d be at a party with friends and family, having a great time, and then suddenly I’d be done.

Not angry.

Not upset.

Just done.

I’d disappear upstairs at my parents’ house in Belmont or retreat back into Bertie Bea at a rally.

For a long time, I wondered if something was wrong with me.

Then I realized something.

I don’t leave because I don’t enjoy people.

I leave because I do.

I just recharge differently.

Some people gain energy from the crowd.

I gain energy from a quiet cup of coffee at 4:00 AM.

The funny thing is that the people who know me best figured it out before I did.

They’ll look at the clock and say, “Looks like it’s about your bedtime.”

They’re not pushing me away.

They’re giving me permission to be myself.

Maybe that’s the lesson.

You don’t have to apologize for how you’re wired.

Find your people.

The right ones won’t be offended when you leave the party.

They’ll save you a seat for tomorrow.

😎☕🚐

If you’re new to RV life, here’s one lesson you’ll learn fast…

Hope isn’t a plan.

A little preparation goes a long way. Understanding your electrical system, your tanks, and basic maintenance can turn stressful moments into simple fixes.

Because RV life will throw surprises your way…
But when you understand your rig, those surprises turn into stories instead of disasters.

That’s the idea behind the Rolling Smooth series.

Sometimes the best business moments are the ones nobody could have scripted.

Pete from Capri Campers told the story of how Yellowstone became one of those fortuitous moments for the company.

The show was being filmed mostly up the road from them. Some of the rodeo scenes had Texas roots. And then came the connection with Taylor Sheridan.

They joked that if the Dutton Ranch trucks were going to be authentic, they ought to have Capri Campers on the back.

Taylor told them, “If you build us one, we’ll put it in the show.”

So they did.

And he did.

That’s the kind of story I love: western culture, rodeo roads, working trucks, and a real company ending up in a place that made perfect sense once you saw it.

Bertie Bea appears to have made it into a real estate listing for Eagle RV Park here in Thermopolis, Wyoming.

I asked about NIL money for the use of her name, image, and likeness.

The campground laughed.

Our legal team is currently reviewing the matter from a lawn chair. 🚌🤣

In all seriousness, this is one of the funny little things about RV life and content creation. Sometimes you roll into a campground just to fish, rest, and enjoy the area… and next thing you know, your motorhome is doing unpaid modeling work for a $1.5 million real estate listing.

Bertie Bea remains available for future promotional opportunities.

Payment may be accepted in premium pull-through sites with good water pressure, level gravel, and reliable 50-amp service.

Fly fishing has a way of humbling a man in a hurry.

Sometimes the cast looks good, the water looks right, and then you bring the fly back covered in gunk, grass, and whatever else the river decided to donate.

At that point, there’s only one honest thing to say.

“Yeah… that ain’t gonna catch anything.”

Just another little slice of real life from the water during birthday week on the Bighorn River.

Tilden Hooper said something in this conversation that fits right into the Rolling Smooth mindset.

Don’t get too high over the highs.
Don’t get too low over the lows.

That sounds simple enough, but simple and easy are not the same thing.

Tilden talks about how even when you know better, you can still chase rabbits when things start going south. And when things are going well, it’s just as easy to get overconfident.

That applies to rodeo.

It applies to RV life.

It applies to pretty much anything where the road, the arena, or life itself can humble you in a hurry.

Stay grounded.
Don’t take it for granted.
And remember that every time you get to do what you love, it matters.

Meagan Butler said something in this conversation that a lot of RVers will understand.

She never thought of herself as adventurous.
She didn’t even like driving.

But once RV life got ahold of her, the road became something different.

Not just travel.
Not just camping.
Not just getting from one place to another.

A happy place.

And on Memorial Day, which also happens to be my birthday, this little clip feels like a reminder I probably needed too.

There’s still time.
There are still miles.
There are still things to see.

New podcast has dropped!

This week on the Wandering Gypsy RV Life Podcast, I’m joined by Pete and Tyson D’Acosta of Capri Camper, the folks behind what many in the rodeo world know as The Cowboy’s Cadillac.

The episode opens with a quote from Tilden Hooper, and he says it better than I ever could: growing up in rodeo, every great rodeo cowboy he looked up to had a Capri Camper. When he finally got his own, it felt like he had made it.

That right there tells you everything about this brand's legacy.

In this conversation, Pete and Tyson share the story of Capri Camper, its roots going back to 1969, and why these simple, hand-built truck campers have become such a trusted part of the rodeo road and the Western lifestyle.

We talk about:
- Capri’s rodeo legacy
- The cabover and non-cabover models
- Why simplicity matters when you’re traveling hard
- Showers, freshwater, 30-amp power, solar, generators, and camper systems
- Why Capri avoids unnecessary complexity
- The Yellowstone, Jen Landon, Taylor Sheridan, and Ryan Bingham connection
- And why so many roughstock riders trust Capri Camper to keep them rolling

This one fits the Rolling Smooth mindset perfectly: simple systems, road-tested gear, and knowing what matters when the miles stack up.

Bertie Bea and Rosie officially rolled into Thermopolis, Wyoming today, but not before getting a proper Wyoming welcome. 🤠

At one point, Bertie Bea used a pull-off to let traffic pass, and that little courtesy stop turned into a mud facial for both the coach and Rosie. The SnapPad tells the story. When your leveling gear looks like it got dipped in cowboy gravy, you know it’s been a real travel day.

Rosie did get a bath once we got settled, but only after I handled the important priorities first: a beer and Rocky Mountain Oysters at the One-Eyed Buffalo in downtown Thermopolis.

Groceries and gas are definitely pricier than they were when I rolled out of Alabama, and the nearest Walmart is more than 50 miles away. But the good news? The fishing spot is only 2.5 miles from Eagle RV Park, and that math works just fine for birthday week.

The drive up from Douglas was beautiful, and the KOA there was a great stop. Today’s route brought me through Wind River Canyon, including three tunnels marked at 14 feet of clearance.

Bertie Bea is 13 feet 6 inches to the top of her air conditioners.

Let’s just say there was a little pucker factor involved.

I slowed her down to about 35 mph through those tunnels because bouncing Bertie Bea under a 14-foot ceiling sounded like a great way to rearrange rooftop A/C units, and that was not on today’s itinerary.

But we made it. The scenery was incredible, the rig is settled, Rosie is clean, and fishing is close.

That’s a pretty solid day on the road.

Keep rolling smooth, even when the SnapPads come out, wearing half the county. 🚌🎣
