Merry Christmas!

How may I give to those in my community who are in need?

Greenville & Western is partnering with the Belton Interfaith Ministerial Association (“BIMA”) and the Presbyterian Food Bank of Pelzer and Williamston (“PFB”) to collect food for those in our community who may presently find themselves in a time of real need. Greenville & Western encourages those who attend this year’s event to bring a donation of one or more non-perishable food items to the train. Greenville & Western, BIMA and PFB volunteers will be staffing the Aiken Railway caboose (the caboose directly behind the locomotives) to accept your donations and thank you in advance for your generous support of both organizations’ food ministry.

Donations are not mandatory for participation in the event.

There seems to be some confusion with the first post. Here is the press release from Honea Path Police Chief Chris Miller:

Honea Path Police Department
Chief Chris Miller, Public Information Officer
Date: November 10, 2025
Incident: Harassment Arrest Following Dangerous Dog Encounter
On October 23, 2025, officers with the Honea Path Police Department responded to a report on Carlisle Drive regarding a large German Shepherd that had reportedly gotten loose from its owner’s property. The investigation determined the animal exited through an opening in a chain-link fence gate at its residence.
While a man and his wife were walking their small dog on a leash, the German Shepherd approached in what the victims described as a threatening and aggressive manner. The male victim, who was lawfully armed, stated that he first fired a warning shot into the air in an attempt to scare the dog away, but the animal continued advancing. Fearing for their safety and that of their pet, the victim fired one shot, striking the dog in the neck. The injured dog retreated back to its home, where the owners transported it to a local veterinarian. Unfortunately, the dog did not survive.
Officers documented the incident, photographed the scene, and confirmed the dog had escaped its enclosure. No charges were filed regarding the shooting, as the victims were within their rights to protect themselves and their pet.
Later that day, the daughter of the dog’s owner, Joy Hanley, came to the police department requesting an es**rt to the victims’ residence to confront them. Hanley was advised that officers would not facilitate that request and that she should not attempt contact on her own. Shortly afterward, officers received a call that Hanley was at the victims’ home honking her horn. Responding officers located Hanley on scene, and after the victims requested she be trespassed, she was formally warned not to return or contact the victims.
Despite this warning, officers later received documented reports and video evidence of continued harassment, including repeated horn-honking and drive-bys at all hours.
The victims reported a silver SUV following them and later observed the same vehicle parked across the street from their residence on Heyward Avenue, backed into a driveway and facing their home. The victims photographed the vehicle and provided the image to police. The vehicle was later identified as belonging to the dog’s owners.
Officers contacted the owners and advised them to cease any further contact or actions that could be perceived as intimidation. While no additional incidents were documented involving the owners, Joy Hanley continued to drive past the victims’ residence, honking the horn during both day and night hours.
The victims also reported an act of vandalism but could not be connected to Hanley.
Following an extended investigation and collection of evidence, Joy Hanley was located by Honea Path officers on the night of Saturday, November 10, 2025, driving past the victims’ residence while sounding her horn. Hanley was taken into custody and charged with Harassment, 1st Degree.
Chief Miller stated:
“This was an unfortunate and emotional series of events. The loss of a pet is always tragic, regardless of the circumstances. However, our town has an ordinance against animals running at large for a reason — to prevent incidents that place people and pets in danger. The victims in this case had every right to protect themselves. What cannot be tolerated, under any circumstances, is harassment or intimidation that causes fear and distress to another person. Our department acted to ensure the safety and peace of all parties involved.”
A separate call earlier that morning, also involving a large dog reportedly attempting to attack livestock on Heyward Avenue, was noted. Although that dog was not located, the description was similar.
The Honea Path Police Department reminds residents to ensure all pets are properly secured at all times to prevent harm or violations of the town’s Animal Running at Large Ordinance.
