The Supreme Court unanimously ruled that the government cannot automatically strip firearm rights from casual drug users without showing they pose a danger to public safety.

The case involved a Texas man who occasionally used ma*****na and was charged under a federal law that prohibits unlawful users of controlled substances from possessing fi****ms.

The court ruled the law was applied unconstitutionally in his case but emphasized that the decision is narrow and does not eliminate all firearm restrictions for drug users or those with substance addiction.

The ruling means prosecutors may now need to present evidence that a person’s drug use makes them dangerous rather than relying solely on drug use as grounds for a firearm prohibition.

The decision is expected to have significant implications for future Second Amendment challenges, particularly as ma*****na remains federally illegal despite being legal in many states.

Residents in Capitol Heights are being reminded that all vehicles parked within town limits must follow local and Maryland vehicle regulations.

The warning comes as the town continues enforcement against abandoned, inoperable, and improperly maintained vehicles.

Under the policy, officers will place a warning sticker on vehicles believed to be abandoned.

Owners have 72 hours from the time the notice is issued to move the vehicle. If it remains in place after that period, it may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Town officials say abandoned and inoperable vehicles are among the most common property and public works violations.

Residents with questions about a towed vehicle can contact the local police department for vehicle release information and applicable fees.

Netflix has finalized a lease for approximately 14,000 square feet inside the historic Woodies Building on F Street NW, creating a unique space that will combine offices, coworking areas, private screening rooms and a red-carpet event space.

The new location is expected to host premieres, community screenings and events while also serving as Netflix’s Washington operations hub.

The move brings new life to a long-vacant portion of the landmark building and marks a notable investment in downtown D.C.’s continued post-pandemic recovery.

The announcement comes as other major technology companies are also expanding their presence in the F Street corridor, signaling growing interest in downtown D.C. as a center for government relations, technology and media industries.

Supporters say high-profile investments like this can help increase foot traffic, boost nearby businesses and strengthen the region’s economy by bringing more workers and visitors back into the city.

A Virginia woman who survived being shot 10 times by her former partner is speaking publicly for the first time after filing a nearly $144 million lawsuit against a town and its police chief, alleging they failed to protect her despite her pleas for help before the attack.

The lawsuit claims she contacted the police chief shortly before the February shooting but was told he did not want to get involved.

Her attorney also alleges the chief later contacted the accused shooter, who then called her before the shooting occurred. The accused gunman faces separate criminal charges and is not named in the civil lawsuit.

Months after the attack, the survivor continues to recover from severe injuries, including multiple surgeries, physical therapy and lasting physical limitations.

She says sharing her story is about raising awareness for others experiencing abusive relationships and encouraging them to seek safety and support.

A judge is scheduled to decide on July 1 whether the lawsuit will be moved to another Virginia court due to concerns over finding an impartial jury. The allegations in the lawsuit have not yet been proven in court.

D.C.‘s craft beer scene reached a major milestone as Urban Garden Brewhouse () officially opened in Shaw, becoming the city’s first Black woman-owned brewery.

Founder Eamoni Collier, a D.C. native and former brewer at the same location, launched the business to bring more representation to an industry where Black-owned breweries make up a small percentage nationwide.

The brewery features unique beers inspired by ancient Egyptian brewing traditions, using herbs, spices and botanicals, including flavors like coriander-orange peel wheat beer and lemongrass pilsner. The menu also highlights D.C. favorites such as mumbo wings and ribeye steak n’ cheese.

Beyond beer and food, the space aims to serve as a community hub with youth programs, workshops, flower arranging events and a marketplace featuring local products.

The grand opening celebration takes place June 19, followed by a brunch event the next day.
