Thank you Bemidji Pioneer for helping shine a light on the importance of local public media stations and what is at stake for our communities.

The Rescissions Act of 2025, signed into law by President Donald Trump on July 24, will impact Lakeland PBS, Minnesota Public Radio and KAXE/KBXE when fiscal year 2026 begins in October.

It's National Book Lovers Day!

📚💕 Are you a Bridget Jones fan? PBS Books Readers Club welcomes beloved British author Helen Fielding to discuss her iconic novel Bridget Jones’s Diary—a clever, laugh-out-loud reimagining of Pride and Prejudice through the eyes of a hilariously imperfect 90’s heroine.

🎬 PBS Watch-Alike: Celebrate Jane Austen’s 250th. Just like Bridget Jones’s Diary, these PBS Masterpiece adaptations draw inspiration from the wit, romance, and rebellious spirit of Jane Austen—whose legacy we’re celebrating in her 250th birthday year.

Stream shows like Miss Austen, Death Comes to Pemberly, and Sanditon now with PBS Passport— all perfect viewing companions for your Austen-inspired summer.

🦅This past weekend was the 27th Annual Anishinaabe Spirit Run.

The Anishinaabe Spirit Run is an annual relay run that unites people from all backgrounds in a powerful journey of healing and hope. Beginning at the Red Lake Reservation and ending at the Fond du Lac Reservation, participants carry a message of sobriety and healing with every step.

This isn't just a physical race; it's a spiritual journey. Runners use the time on the road to reflect, connect with themselves and others, and honor the Anishinaabe cultural values of community and perseverance. The run serves as a moving demonstration of strength and commitment, fostering a message of positive change that resonates far beyond the miles covered.

🎉Help us wish Dave Sievert a Happy Retirement!!

Dave began working at Lakeland in 1985. He has been an institution at our station who has worked in our Master Control Department helping make sure that our viewers have access to their favorite shows and programs.

We will miss his friendly chats, fun shirts, and dedication to our work and our staff!

Rural communities deserve access to local stories, news, and information.

As your small rural station, we need our communitities help to continue the important work we know you value. Local programs like Lakeland News, Backroads, Common Ground, Documentaries, Lakeland Currents and so much more are at risk.

Your support is our survival.

🚂Producer Randy Cadwell visited the train depot in Little Falls as he continues to work on our upcoming depot documentary!

The depot was designed by Cass Gilbert, a prominent Minnesota architect who also designed the Minnesota State Capitol and other buildings. The Little Falls depot was one of Gilbert's last works before he moved from the area. In 1899, the Northern Pacific Railway hired Gilbert to design a depot at a cost not exceeding $7,000. Built of sandstone, wood, and brick, the depot blended the Shingle and American Craftsman styles of architecture.

Stay tuned to learn more about northern Minnesota train depot history!

“I don’t think supporting children’s access to these educational tools is a partisan issue. The money invested in early childhood is money well spent, the return on investment is clear…[It] is estimated to provide a return on investment of approximately $4 for every $1 invested.”
