A DREAM COME TRUE!!!
~ Bowhunting Alberta Moose ~
Shooting a big bull moose with a bow has always been number one on the list!! Doing it together and capturing this unreal trip on film is very special to both of us!
The trip started with us visiting one of our favorite places on earth…Banff! If you have never been there you should definitely put it on your list.
We arrived at Canadian Outfitting Company after spending a couple days in the Canadian Rockies. From the moment we arrived at camp and met Ken, Sam, our guide Amanda, and the other two hunters in camp (Niko and Chad) we knew this trip was meant to be.
First half of the hunt we faced warm conditions which made for minimal animal movement and sweaty days. We stayed positive and focused knowing a big bull was only one call away.
Second half we got the cold front we needed! On the fourth morning we had our first encounter with a nice bull. He hung up and was pretty lazy but it was awesome to see our first ever moose while hunting. This particular area was loaded with sign and we knew this is where we were going to camp out for the next three days. (I also had a good feeling about this spot when I found my first ever moose shed here)
The next day we snuck out and got setup. After sitting through the morning we were ready for the evening. After hearing a twig snap I swiveled my head. It was meant to be as when I did so out of the corner of my eye I saw a big black flash across the swamp. I grabbed the binos and scanned and there he was!! Huge paddles sticking out of the willows. We quick grabbed the decoy and all our stuff and closed the distance to about 200 yards. We got all setup and Amanda grabbed a log and started raking the willows as I grunted! After what felt like forever he appeared back out of the willows standing tall and huge staring at our decoy!! This was the moment we had been working so hard for! He started licking his nose and waddling in closing the distance getting bigger and bigger! 48 yards….35 yards….28 yards and he turned broadside. I took a deep breath drew back put the 30 yard pin on him and let it fly!! Smoked him double lung. He ran 20 yards stopped started to stumble and down he went!! I SHOT A DREAM BULL!!
We will tell you if you want to shoot a moose or a giant whitetail then Canadia Outfitting Company is the place to do it! Ken & Sam and the crew are professional and know what it takes to get it done! We went 3 for 3 this week on Alberta bulls in camp! We met new friends and worked our tails off packing out three moose in less than two days and man does the sore body feel good!!
As Ken says “there is nothing easy about a moose” but the coolest hunt there is! Boy is he right!
Such an UNREAL trip! Huge thanks to our parents for watching the girls while we were gone. We can’t wait to share the amazing footage!
