What a way to end the ice season! Went up to Northern Minnesota with family chasing perch, and it never disappoints!
Day 1 started slow. Really slow. Like we might not catch enough fish for our evening fish fry. Hopped over to a different lake. Took some work, but the midday bite saved us! Almost limited out, but kept 16 solid 9 to 11 1/4" perch. Needless to say, we had our perch dinner alright!
Day 2 was kind of the same. Weeded through a ton of d***s, but picked off big fish here or there. Jim found an area with a much better ratio of big to small fish. We quick set up over there and BOOM! It was on like Donkey Kong! An easy limit of 9 to 11 1/4" fish. Again, the midday bite was awesome! Another awesome perch dinner!
Day 3 we farted around chasing bluegills and sunnies in the morning. Oh. My. Goodness! Lakes with these caliber fish are few and far between. An easy limit of 5 sunfish apiece, then went back to the perch lake to round out our possession limit of 40 perch apiece. The wind was brutal, and the big fish would just not cooperate. But we scratched it out, and managed our remaining fish of 8 to 11 inches. We ate bluegills for dinner so we could go chase some more the next day.
Day 4 was zero pressure. We got to just enjoy the awesome lake with the incredible size class of gills and sunnies! We tossed back so many 8" sunnies and 9" gills it was unbelievable! Hoping that lake will support some 10 inchers by next year!
What a great ending to an incredible Ice Season! Can't wait for next year!
