🏫 Bennington Board of Education Meeting Recap

The September 14 Board of Education meeting included updates on the district’s 2026-27 budget, transportation, student services, curriculum and more.

A few key takeaways: the proposed levy would decrease to $1.345 — the lowest in 16 years — a new school bus was approved, and construction on Bennington South High School is now approximately 41% complete and remains on track to open for the 2028-29 school year.

🏛️ Bennington City Council Recap:

Monday night’s meeting included a 1.4% decrease in the city’s property tax levy, approval of Neumeyer Farm Park Phase 2, zoning changes paving the way for consideration of a local micro-distillery, and continued discussion about a potential Downtown Improvement District.

The council also approved the city’s one- and six-year street plan, heard updates from the library, police and public works departments, and more.

“I climb for them, because as long as they are remembered, and their names are said, they are never truly gone.”

Bennington firefighters Jake Needham and Clint Ruppert joined firefighters and community members at Werner Park for Nebraska’s annual 9/11 stair climb, honoring the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice 25 years ago.

We spoke with them about what goes through their minds with every step, the sacrifices behind the uniform, and why remembering, and teaching the next generation, matters.

25 years later, a piece of the World Trade Center still stands right here in Bennington.

The Bennington Fire Department opened its doors Friday to remember those lost on 9/11, honor the sacrifices of first responders, and help a new generation understand why we continue to say: Never Forget.

We spoke with local firefighters about what this memorial means to them, and why its message still matters 25 years later.

🏈 Friday night's recap is here! The Badgers continue their perfect start.Bennington rolled past Columbus 51-10 Friday night in a game that was about more than just the final score, including a special 9/11 halftime recognition honoring local first responders and military personnel.

Head Coach Kam Lenhart also shared what impressed him most about his team, how they’ve handled adversity and the importance of staying focused on the present as they head into Week 4.

🏃‍♂️💨 Friday was a big night for Bennington Cross Country at the Fremont Twilight Invitational!

The girls took 2nd place overall, led by Selah Carson’s 4th-place finish, while the boys showed major improvement and packed it tight. Coach Schumm called it one of the best team performances in a while!
