So yesterday, Jasmine asked me if they had any special moments with grandpa (my dad) aside this last Christmas 😊. That question reminded me of a couple of times my dad saved her. Let me share two of those with you all😉.
In 2018, my dad visited us in Lagos after much begging. You know how hard it is to get some parents to leave their comfort zones and come to a supposedly boring place, right?😁 To cut the long story short, one day I left for work as usual, and my dad called me with a shaky voice, telling me I needed to come home for thanksgiving because a big disaster almost happened. Hmmmm…
I pressed the phone tightly to my ear to make sure i hear him loud and clear😁, and he said that he was sleeping but suddenly woke up and went straight to the balcony. He saw that Jasmine’s one leg was already down, and she was struggling to get the other leg down. My dad hurriedly grabbed her hands to prevent her from falling off our one story apartment building. Hmmmmmm….I still can’t imagine the situation… Then when my dad shouted, my two children’s nannies ran out of the room to see what was happening 😒
The second time was when I went out again for work. On my way back, when I reached our security gate, the security guards told me to run home because the thick smoke they could see was coming from my house. Haaa… God, please help me oooo 🏃
I ran as fast as I could, and when I got home, all the tenants were outside, recounting what had happened. They told me that my dad saved my daughter. 😩😩😩 One of the nannies had been trying to secure her belongings instead of making sure that everyone was safe😁😁😁, but my dad, thinking the nannies had both kids, ran out of his room and downstairs. When he got downstairs, he only found Jason and the two nannies…..my daughter was still upstairs, sleeping. Everyone was too scared to go up because of the thick smoke.
My dad ran into the smoke to rescue my daughter. He grabbed her, but now the question was: how would they get down? He went to my room, grabbed my towel, doubled it with his own, wrapped my daughter in it, held his breath, and entered the now fire-filled room with the smoke. My dad saved my daughter a second time.😩🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
As for those nannies, their story is for another day...
I shared these two stories with Jasmine, and she became very emotional, just like I did. The truth is, with how I feel about my dad’s passing, I don’t know how young widows cope. How they manage to move on... When you think you’re okay, you suddenly find yourself feeling down again.
Before my dad passed, he told my brothers not to take him to the mort**ry and to make sure people who came around to lower him below had something to drink ☺️ instead of crying. 😊 So he was buried the same day, with the funeral to follow later. I saw videos of people drinking by his gr@ve, but it triggered my tears. I tried to hold it in…no way, but since it was what he wanted, I’m glad they honored his wish.
On that note, I’d like to gift 5 widows under this post 5k each. I share in their pain. 🤗
Pls include Obioma Glory ( not sure I got the name right) to make it 6….
