Rock Art 🎨

Anyone else find a fun surprise in their garden this year? 🎃

Picked her from the garden this morning. Every year I will indulge a compost plant or two, just to see what I get. Usually it’s a squash variation. This year we got pumpkins. A bit early, but the sight of that bright orange makes me happy and puts me in the mood for fall. 🍁🍂

Thunder Cake 🌩🍰

Not sure if you’re familiar with the beloved children’s author, Patricia Polacco, but she’s a fave at our house. Her book, Thunder Cake, has invited a forever tradition into our home. The book is about a little girl (the author) making it through a thunderstorm by gathering ingredient and preparing a cake with her babushka (polish grandma) as the thunder draws closer. Then, enjoying the chocolate cake (made with an unlikely secret ingredient) while the storm is overhead. Here’s my 9 year-old’s version of Thunder Cake today as the thunder rolled here in Northwest Arkansas. (We were out of cocoa and fresh strawberries so big sister helped her make a buttercream raspberry frosting) If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it for parents and grandparents alike. Little sunflower teepee coming in nicely. Should be good and covered by the summit of summer. We did a short piece on the perfect picnic and concluded it didn’t have to be perfect to be meaningful. Grab a quilt/throw rug and pull up a patch of shade while it lasts. @ The Ozarks
