Berkeley Poetry Review

Berkeley Poetry Review Publishing poetry from around the world at the University of California, Berkeley, since 1974. Is your work attempting to start a dialogue? To push?

The Berkeley Poetry Review (BPR) is a journal published annually at the University of California, Berkeley. Founded in 1974, it has featured the work of new as well as established poets and writers, including Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Yusef Komunyakaa, Brenda Hillman, Czesław Miłosz, Cole Swensen, Robert Hass, Ishmael Reed, and Thom Gunn. While we accept great poetry of any kind, we are particularly

interested in work that complicates prevailing conceptions of race, gender, sexuality, ecology, and poetic form itself. To enter into conversation? Send it our way. The cover art for our 44th issue, also used as our website header, is by subtle ceiling. Find and admire them at http://subtleceiling.tumblr.com or http://subtle-ceiling.blogspot.com

At long last, Issue 50 has arrived! We are so thankful for the energy, creativity, and patience of all involved in creating this anthology, most especially that of the writers and artists who have entrusted us with their work. It is, as always, an immense honor.

We will be distributing Issue 50 via individual donations to Bay Area-based bail funds and organizations oriented towards the elimination of police, the abolition of prisons, the elevation of Black artists and Black art spaces, and the support of currently or formerly incarcerated individuals. We are grateful to live, write, and read in the Bay, and stand in full solidarity with the relentless organizing efforts of our wider community. An evolving list of organizations (if you know a group in need of funds, tell us!) and ordering instructions are available on our website (https://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~bpr/).

At this time, applicable organizations include: California Coalition for Women Prisoners, No Neutral Alliance, Nure Collective, Bay Area Anti Repression Committee, Oakland's People's Breakfast Bail Fund, Anti Police-Terror Project & TGI Justice Project (TGIJP) — email us a receipt proving that you donated, and we’ll send you a copy of our book!

Information on our release reading to follow. We love you all, stay safe & loud 💛
