VAGABOND stands with UC Berkeley language lecturers. ❤ We value what you do and hope that the University can understand the enormous value that you bring to hundreds of students each year. Many of us have taken classes with you which have enhanced our academic experiences in critical ways.
I, as a third-generation mixed-Filipino American, grew up speaking only English. Taking Tagalog 1A with Tita Chat was more than a language-learning experience: it was a chance for me to learn about my identity in solidarity with other Fil-Am students. Tagalog 1A was a space in which we, as products of diaspora, could together struggle to learn the mother-tongue of many of our parents and grandparents. Such a space would not have been possible if not for our caring and skilled instructor, Tita Chat.
