Just a little is enough‼️ My friends have been enjoying productive field herping adventures in North Carolina due to the recent cold front. Unfortunately, I can no longer drive because Homonymous Hemianopia causes wild hallucinations. However, my sweetheart took me on an impromptu “rocket run” to explore the Pamlico Sound area last weekend, and she spotted this stunning beauty crossing a rural highway! 🙌

📸 Check out the heat-seeking pits in this macro zoom iPhoto As always, venomous snakes are best admired from a safe distance, incluing this Carolina Pygmy rattlesnake. Mutual respect is key! 🐍🌿

TWO’S COMPANY‼️ I’ve been teaching my younger friend, Patrick, about field herping in coastal North Carolina recently. Last weekend he Face Timed me while observing this newborn Carolina Pygmy rattlesnake.

Suddenly, another car approached, and he had to let me go to ensure no harm would come to the colorful neonate. Minutes later he rings back, and my longtime friend and early mentor pops onto my screen. Rusty hadn’t seen any snakes, yet!

The irony of my “student” helping a master herpetologist find this little beauty was extremely satisfying. It also demonstrated that we’re never too young or old to learn new things about herpetology. As alway, mutual respect is key for all wildlife encounters in nature, including tiny venomous snakes too! 🐍📸🌿

Here’s another beauty from the Coastal Plains of North Carolina‼️ The scientific name of both the Canebrake (or Timber rattlesnake )is Crotalus horridus. Depending on the region of the United States they are found these venomous snakes may have other accepted common names, too. But Mutual respect is key for all venomous pit vipers, and they should be admired from a safe distance! 🐍📸🌿

📸 It was too hot to walk to her community swimming pool, or find any snakes last weekend. But, I found a Ground Skink on her 2nd had such a blast watching Wild Robot! 🌿🤖♥️

Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder‼️Although there is no universal standard of what is beautiful in nature, all pit vipers have extraordinary camouflaged patterns, including this stunning Copperhead.

📸 Mutual respect is key for ALL wildlife encounters, and enomous snakes are best admired from a distance. Copperheads can be found throughout North Carolina. 🐍🌿
