**Lehigh Valley Public Media Community Guidelines**

Lehigh Valley Public Media is the home to PBS39 and WVLR News. Our social media channels for both our television and radio station are a medium for us to further share our local reporting and for discussion of issues of public concern. While we do moderate comments on social media, we also encourage the vibrant expression of diverse views about our content, as well as civil and dignified speech, as much as possible. However, we ask that members of our community please respect the following guidelines:

Be polite. Disagree without name calling, slandering or personally attacking others in our community. Civil discourse is encouraged, aggressive attacks and commentary are not. Do not post anything that could be taken as threatening, harassing, sexist or racist on our digital content. No obscenities, no transphobic, bigoted or racist language. Post only your own work and thoughts. You are welcome to add quotes with attribution, or link to other relevant articles to support your argument, but do not copy and paste lengthy excerpts from other people’s work or violate any copyright regulations. Please don't post the contact information or private information of other people. Please also don’t use this public forum for private communications. Please stay on topic and keep your comments brief. No advertising messages, recruiting, campaigning, soliciting or proselytizing. There are more appropriate venues for that. We reserve the rights to moderate whether a post is solicitation or not, and will moderate as appropriate. Report abuse and flag bad behavior when you see it. We appreciate the news tips members of the public share with us. However, please don’t share misinformation. Our goal as a public media organization is to give our community clear, concise and fact-based news and information. If you post something as fact, please substantiate it with a credible source. If you cannot do this, and our journalists find your claim to be unsubstantiated, we have the right to remove or delete your comment so that it does not cause confusion and unrest. Comments are moderated but they are not changed or edited. Comments are subject to our Terms of Use. Lehigh Valley Public Media will not publish comments that include slurs, foul language, threats or personal attacks. We will not post comments that use insulting or offensive nicknames or invented names. Any comment assumed to be spam will be deleted. Lehigh Valley Public Media reserves the right to remove any comments we judge to be in violation of our community guidelines. Those continuously posting comments of an inflammatory, disruptive nature should expect to be blocked. Likewise, those not adhering to the aforementioned guidelines can expect to be blocked.

Your voice matters. Tell Congress not to rescind previously approved funds for public media.

The White House recently issued a memo to Congress that includes a request to take back previously approved funds for public media locally and across the country. Public media contributes to an informed citizenry, which is fundamental to our democracy, and provides educational programming that advances learning skills for our nation’s children. Additionally, public media is often the only local news source available where other news organizations have disappeared.

Visit Protect My Public Media now to send a message to your congressional representatives. Your advocacy and local support are needed to ensure that Lehigh Valley Public Media’s independent local news and educational programming will continue to thrive.

Lehigh Valley Public Media Announces Hasanna Birdsong as Chief Executive Officer

Lehigh Valley Public Media, the Lehigh Valley’s community-owned nonprofit source for local news, educational programming, and community engagement, today announced the appointment of Hasanna Birdsong as its new chief executive officer effective June 30.

Birdsong, a Lehigh Valley native, is a seasoned executive with over 25 years of experience. Most recently, she was managing director at Adept Group, an Allentown-based packaging engineering consultancy, where she led the organization and developed growth strategies across the food and beverage, consumer packaged goods, and life science sectors. Under Birdsong’s leadership, the firm exceeded profit goals and was recognized as a Best Place to Work in Pennsylvania.

Before her time at Adept Group, Birdsong was vice president of advertising at The Express-Times and lehighvalleylive.com. In that role, she led a digital-first transformation that significantly increased revenue and audience engagement, positioning the media brands as a regional leader in digital media.

“Hasanna’s extensive experience leading transformation and innovation across media and technical consulting industries makes her the ideal leader to guide Lehigh Valley Public Media into its next chapter,” said Michael S. Keim, Lehigh Valley Public Media’s board chair. “She has built a career at the intersection of community, content, and strategy, which aligns perfectly with our mission to connect, inform, and inspire the Lehigh Valley region through independent local news, impactful educational programming and community engagement.”

Birdsong said, “I am honored to lead Lehigh Valley Public Media at such a pivotal moment, when trusted local journalism, educational programming, and community connection are more essential than ever. Lehigh Valley Public Media has the power to inform, uplift, and reflect the vibrant local communities it serves, and I’m excited to work with the organization’s incredible and talented team to deepen impact, expand access, and innovate for the future.”
