HUGE shout-out to Adam Hargrave for being named the IWCOA Girls State Official Of The Year!!! Hargrave was a 2X Iowa HS State Wrestling Placer for Louisa-Muscatine HS, placing 3rd twice! He was also a Greco National AA! He was coached by Tom Mashek!

Guy was/is awesome! Congrats Adam!

Here’s another current wrestler who consistently will read the posts I publish about the old-timers as well as current wrestlers… Allen Catour who is a 165 lber for the Loras Duhawks in Dubuque, Iowa! That’s where I wrestled… great place!!

Allen is in his 2nd year competing at Loras College and he had a very decent season last year as a Freshman, in which it appears he won about 70% of his matches on the season and defeated several good wrestlers all season long. This year he’s on a roll! In fact, it appears he has pinned or teched everyone he’s faced since December!

Allen initially competed in the state of Illinois for Orion HS. While there, he put together a career in which he placed 5th at the Illinois HS State Wrestling Tournament. There were a couple Catour brothers back in my day that I wonder if he’s related to… So every year in HS, we competed with some Illinois schools, considering they are right across the bridge from where we live. llinois has some tough wrestlers. Some of the best we ever competed against were from Illinois from youth all the way through HS. Anyways , I remember Joel and Tony Catour, from Moline HS. I am assuming Allen is related to them?!

Ok so the first time I heard about Allen Catour was when he was in HS. He competed at Orion HS in Illinois and made the podium his Sophomore year there, finishing 5th at Division 1, 45. The reason I heard about him is because Orion is only across the bridge and to the North about an hour from where I live, so we had the same news region. I saw a clip or a segment of him on one of the news stations one evening.

And then the next year he was at Davenport Assumption HS in Iowa. There is an assistant coach there who grew up in the same wrestling club and community as I did. His name is Dustin Gieselman and he was a 2X Iowa HS State Wrestling Placer for West Burlington HS. First time I saw him that season, the first thing he told me was how much talent this Allen Catour had. And boy was he not kidding. Kid beat the heck out of one of our local guys from ND HS at state one year and did so in a manner that we hadn’t seen happen to that kid very often that season.

Then when Allen was a Senior in 2022, he finished 3rd at the Iowa HS State Wrestling Tournament again at 3A 160 and finished 34-2 on the year.

Congrats to Ella Schmit and the Iowa Women's Wrestling team on their NWCA Duals National Championship!

The Hawks won a very close and exciting dual over North Central in the finals.

Good luck to the Bettendorf Bulldogs as they travel to The Clash - National High School Wrestling Duals to compete in one of the best dual tournaments around.

The Bulldogs wrestle at 4pm, 6pm, and 8pm tonight and then will have bracket competition on Saturday.

The entire tournament will be streamed on FloWrestling.

Junior Jacob Badger and freshman Michael Macias hold the lead with 11 wins!

Right behind them are a pair of freshmen Jack Miller with 7 and Khadyn Jacobs with 6!
