A New York-based company is seeking to purchase two properties owned by the city of Beulah, with the idea of developing them into housing.

City Economic Development Director Beaver Brinkman announced at the city’s regular council meeting, Aug. 18, that the company (which he could not recall the name) is seeking a purchase agreement for both the property of the former nursing home – for $83,000 – and property west of New Energy Drive, for $25,000.
After some discussion, council unanimously agreed to go forward with the purchasing agreement.

The company is looking to start construction next year, according to Brinkman.

She may be new to the Beulah Public Schools’ Board of Education, but Mardee Reich is well familiar among the school district and school community.

Reich, who has lived in the Zap area for the past 30 years, has several ties to the Beulah school district and its surrounding community. She has been a substitute teacher for the school for many years and, for the past 20 years, has been a Catholic Church catechism instructor, as well.

Reich was one of two people who won a seat on the board after the June 10 election, which fellow board member Blake Seibel retained his seat.

City officials in Beulah will continue discussions about signing a contract with its two engineering firms, debating on rewriting an entire contract for both or to add certain amendments to its existing one.

At its regular meeting Aug. 18, city council agreed to continue discussions about whether to completely rewrite a “boilerplate” contract that was provided by Engineers Joint Contract Documents Committee or add what are called “exhibits,” or amendments, to the contract that modifies certain sections in the existing contract.

At its regular meeting, Monday, Aug. 18, the Beulah city council addressed several concerning issues happening with its planning and zoning committee lately.

Towards the end of the meeting’s agenda, Mayor Sean Cheatley brought up ongoing issues regarding the city’s planning and zoning committee. It led to more than an hour of discussion as council aired out several concerns, from a lack of decorum to internal fighting with city officials. According to Ward 2 Councilman Jason Isaak, who researched minutes from 14 meetings the committee has held this year, issues have been tracked as far back as last November.

Cheatley told council that he, Isaak Economic Development Director Beaver Brinkman and Ward 2 Councilman Adam Baker addressed some of the issues and complaints that were reported with Roger Gazur, a member of planning and zoning committee, June 16, believing they resolved the issues.

“I thought we had come to a mutual agreement. Obviously, it was not agreed upon,” Cheatley said.
