The American pika lives in some of the harshest mountain environments of North America.
Unlike many animals, pikas do not hibernate or migrate when winter arrives.
Instead, they spend the warmer months collecting and storing plants in hidden hay piles called “haypiles” to survive beneath the snow.
A tiny mountain survivor preparing for a season it cannot escape.
Sometimes survival is not about running away.
It's about preparing before the storm arrives.
