Dolly Parton Dead at 80: The World Mourns a Music Legend

Country music legend Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. Parton’s official website announced that she died peacefully in Nashville on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Her representatives later confirmed that she had faced a brief battle with cancer. The specific type of cancer has not been disclosed.
From “Jolene” and “Coat of Many Colors” to “9 to 5” and “I Will Always Love You,” Dolly created music that crossed generations, genres and borders.
But her legacy extended far beyond the stage.
