Finding stacks of old paintings and sketches while packing and unpacking over the last few months, pieces I have not looked at in years. There are literally hundreds of them.
We forget how much we have made.
We forget the hours, the bad drafts, the weird phases, the doing it again and again. Sometimes it feels like progress is just a growing pile of paper 😂 Some pieces are worse than I remember, some better.
I am glad I never locked myself into one style. I mean, I worried about it all the time, but I ultimately just made whatever I wanted as long as there was something in it I liked. Staying versatile has helped me a lot, in both illustration and design.
I feel lucky to have built a creative career, but I have also drifted pretty far from analog work lately, outside of sketching and small paintings.
I am excited to keep growing in my graphic design career, especially after landing my first agency job this year at a wonderful place. I also want to get back to more of this. More paper, more paint, more time getting lost in it. It’s much harder to create than destroy, and I know it’s always been worth the effort for me.
